Last few times I used Cnet i ended up with loads of C**p on my computer - from spurious web browsers to dubious programmes. Now I steer clear when I can.

I also used CCleaner - only gripe is that it cleans all auto passwords too. It has a good Root cleaner which is rare in freeware.

If its windows then MS has a basic cleaning programme free. Can't say that it speeds much up when I used it.

Crap Cleaner is great and does not remove passwords if you uncheck the box marked "Saved Passwords" - or anything else you want to leave untouched.

Coming our way soon, thanks to the idiot-in-chief in the White House and all those sycophantic libertards who supported him. I hope that they will all be the first to experience the horrors of socialized medicine. :hunf:

The real reason the NHS in England and Wales is grinding to halt is that successive governments in the UK have been gradually privatising the system so their “pals” in big business can make vast profits from the sick. The fact that the UK has massive debts for a small country was not helped by being involved in an illegal war that was to do with the UK.
In Scotland, where we are fighting for independence, we manage the Scottish National Health Service, a totally separate organisation, better in spite of the fact that the Westminster Government keeps cutting the pocket money they give us while they squander the wealth from Scottish oil fields on weapons of mass destruction and bankers bonuses.
In Scotland we manage free medicine for the sick, free hospital treatment, free bus passes for the over 60s, all on the miserly “Block Grant” we are allowed by Westminster’s Tory Government.
While the members of the Westminster have just decided to give themselves an 11% pay increase the NHS nursing staffs are being allowed 1%.

For a real "painterly" effect there is only Dynamic Auto-painter - it gives choice of artists and degree of the effect. The "free" version puts a watermark along the bottom of the painting.

Hello all. I am new to this forum. I have a dillema. I own 4 great lenses from an old pentax 35mm that I really don't want to part with. They are screw mount. Is it at all possible to get adapters for screw mount to bayonet mount so I can use my lenses with the purchase of a new digital camera body? Would my lenses even work with digital cameras? Would I be losing any camera functionality in keeping my old lenses or would they work with the new technology? I have not seen any new cameras with a screw mount so am assuming they don't exist.

You will find inexpensive adaptors for most lenses to most cameras on EBay and as there is no glass in them there is no problem with reduction in quality due to using a cheap adaptor.
But...apart from all functions being manual, a point to remember is that old lenses will not give as sharp an image on a CCD or CMOS as they were designed without computer aid (as new lenses are) or coated elements, and focus differently for film. I know from my experience using genuine Pentax (K fit) lenses on my Olympus bodies, both DSLR and Micro 4/3 – the images compared with Olympus lenses are just that wee bit soft.

The Little Red Hen (version 2014)

"Who will help me plant my wheat?" asked the little red hen.

"Not I," said the cow.

"Not I," said the duck.

"Not I," said the pig.

"Not I," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself." She planted her crop and the wheat grew and ripened.

"Who will help me reap my wheat?" asked the little red hen.

"Not I," said the duck.

"Out of my classification," said the pig.

"I'd lose my seniority," said the cow.

"I'd lose my unemployment compensation," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen, and so she did.

"Who will help me bake the bread?" asked the little red hen.

"That would be overtime for me," said the cow.

"I'd lose my welfare benefits," said the duck.

"I'm a dropout and never learned how," said the pig.

"If I'm to be the only helper, that's discrimination," said the goose.

"Then I will do it by myself," said the little red hen.

She baked five loaves and held them up for all of her neighbors to see. They wanted some and, in fact, demanded a share but the little red hen said, "No, I shall eat all five loaves."

"Excess profits!" cried the cow. (Nancy Pelosi)

"Capitalist leech!" screamed the duck. (Barbara Boxer)

"I demand equal rights!" yelled the goose. (Jesse Jackson)

The pig just grunted in disdain. (Harry Reid)

And they all painted 'Unfair!' picket signs and marched around and around the little red hen, shouting obscenities.

Then the farmer (Obama) came He said to the little red hen, "You must not be so greedy."

"But I earned the bread," said the little red hen.

"Exactly," said Barack the farmer. "That is what makes our free enterprise system so wonderful. Anyone in the barnyard can earn as much as he wants. But under our modern government regulations, the productive workers must divide the fruits of their labor with those who are lazy and idle."

And they all lived happily ever after, including the little red hen, who smiled and clucked, "I am grateful, for now I truly understand."

But her neighbors became quite disappointed in her. She never again baked bread because she joined the 'party' and got her bread free. And all the Democrats smiled. 'Fairness' had been established.

Individual initiative had died but nobody noticed; perhaps no one cared so long as there was free bread that 'the rich' were paying for.

EPILOGUE

Bill Clinton is getting $12 million for his memoirs.

Hillary got $8 million for hers.

That's $20 million for the memories from two people, who were "broke" when they left the White House and who for eight years repeatedly testified, under oath, that they couldn't remember anything.

Just checked on EBay - many inexpensive, under "lens collar and foot", options available from China.

Can't opine for "best" but be aware IR does not focus on the same plane as visible light. This makes correct focusing awkward with a DLSR. One solution is to use a mirrorless camera. This could be micro 4/3 or a "bridge" camera (looks like a DLSR but isn't). Another solution is a DLSR that has Live View capability and then use the live view at all times even if you have throw a jacket or dark towel over your head to see the LCD in bright sunlight. A third option is to use a DLSR but being aware of the problem stop down to get more DoF. The first option is the ideal one and third the least ideal.

When a camera is convereted for IR it will work on auto-focus and auto- metering, no adjstment is needed as with film cameras.

if you have another camera I will say get it converted, I went the filter route at first and hated it, had a Canon rebel I didn't use much ((xti) and converted it and what a pleasure now to shoot infrared shots

I agree 100% with you but I was suggesting using an R72 filter to begin with, firstly to see how often it is useful and secondly, not everyone has a spare camera body and £200 to spare!

Sounds like you are getting replies from folk who have not tried using an R72 IR filter - most digital camera focus on auto with a filter and you will see an image on the screen though it is dim. In reality if you are using it for landscape you will be able to guess the view anyway.

I had never heard of Raw until joining UHH. Always jpeg and satisfied with it. I received an Olympus EM-1 for Christmas and after reading about Raw on here I installed Lightroom 5 on my computer. Unhh! So much to learn --- both with the camera and the software. My question is this (I am sure there will be more): When I go to a picture on the computer that is jpeg I can see what it is before opening it. When I go to Raw it shows a picture of a camera so I have to open it to see what the picture is. Am I missing something or do all Raw files have to be opened on the computer before you can see what they are?

The free program Picasa, from Google, opens most RAW files and certainly does open ORF files from Olympus cameras as I use it. It opens RAW & ORF files next to each other. But, if Picasa does not do the things you need consider taking more time creating you images it is a versatile, non-destructive program. I humbly suggest not wasting money on a “pro” program like photoshop unless you really need it.

Hi,
Best try an R72, I think it’s 58 mm on your Canon but see the filter size on your lens. An R72 can be bought cheaply on EBay and if you like the result then consider conversion of one of you camera bodies – about $300 from a firm in New York. A cheap filter (£25 on EBay here) at this stage makes no odds as the effect does not give conventionally “sharp” picture as with white light. Using a filter means long exposures a low ISO, like 20 seconds f5.6, but you will get the idea of the effect. If you do not plan on doing a lot of IR a filter is best idea .The images will come out looking red/purple and are dramatic when converted to b/w.
