Ive seen some really GREAT photos that have been made to look like paintings. Ive tried it using elements 12, I cant get close to what Im seeing others do, I also have light room but never use it, as Im still learning elements . What program are you using and can you show me some of your work, and of course and tips are appreciated...

This is something I finished earlier today. I used both Lightroom and a combination of TopazLabs filters to obtain this image. There are a number of others here at UHH using TopazLabs filters. You can find tutorials and examples of images enhanced using TopazLabs filters on Youtube.

These 3 have been edited in lightroom and topaz simplify. You can get crazy with simplify or just go easy with it and get very mild effects. Simplify is very easy to use.

For a real "painterly" effect there is only Dynamic Auto-painter - it gives choice of artists and degree of the effect. The "free" version puts a watermark along the bottom of the painting.

There are many programs out there which apply painterly filters to photos. Smart Photo Editor and FotoSketcher are two I can think of off hand. But there are more. Google Photo Paint programs and you can find out what you like.

I have found that a lot depends on the picture you start with and not everything Iv'e tried works. This one works for me and had the watercolour filter applied in Photoshop.

Search Painted Textures on Facebook. They do incredible paintings from photos. I think they use art history brushes in Photoshop and they truly do look like watercolor paintings.
