When Obama took office, U6 was running over 16%. It has improved about the same as the more widely reported U3.

BTW, all politicians lie... this is old news.

The Wisconsin State Fair used to have a cow chip throwing contest. (They may still have it for all I know - haven't been there for quite a while).

Nevertheless, the objective was to throw a (mostly) dried cow pie, with points gained for distance in the air, distance including roll and size of the remainder after pieces broke off during the process. There were two categories of competition - Professional for politicians and Amateur for the rest. There was quite a number of congressmen who participated year after year.

It's not going to take much to do that -- he's doing a fine job of it himself.

What is it that the Republican establishment should apologize for? If it's that their modus operandi has been to promise one thing in e******n campaigns (smaller government, individual responsibility, etc.) and then governing differently, I wouldn't hold my breath. If it's for anything else, the base won't believe that they understand what they've done or that they're sorry for it.

Because of the frightening possibility that the wretched fool might get elected! What is so difficult to understand about that??

The established ruling class should have considered that possibility years ago and done something about it. Now they're panicking because the revolt is inevitable. Whether or not Trump wins, the e*****rate's intolerance for authoritarian abuse has reached critical mass and a shake-up will occur.

As with most revolutions (violent or non-violent), the abusive authoritarians are always surprised that their subjects won't take it any more.

Mr Bratton, the widely respected Chief of the NYPD, finds Liddle Donny scary. See this:

Tell it, Chief Bratton!

You're missing the whole point if you focus on why some dignitary (or entertainer or Republican or Democrat) is against the Donald. There is a growing cohort of v**ers and potential v**ers who are absolutely convinced that no one in the established ruling class of Washington listens to them or gives a rat's ass about them. If that cohort remains cohesive through November 8, it won't make much difference what Bratton "Tells".

right here but, we need to get off our duffs and get in the game. democracy is a full time job and most of us aren't putting our 40 hours in.

1 limiting v****g time to 12-16 hrs makes no sense.
2 there are many country's where the v****g rate is 80-95 %. I can't remember an e******n where we had 75%. maybe we need mandatory v****g.

Why do you think democracy should be a full time job, and what do you expect that we should do for 40 hours?

And you sound like the conservative talking heads on the radio -- "there's a war on the police". The t***h is that there is a war going on between the police and young b****s. Unless you think that the deaths of Alton Sterling and Philandro Castile were the result of good police work, there's a lot of fixing that needs to be done on both sides before we'll find any remedy.

That's for ACCIDENTS. You lose again.

Follow the conversation, dimwit. OP suggested that all gun owners be required to carry insurance. I was asking whether it would be like requiring all car owners to carry insurance. That was sarcasm -- all car owners are required to carry insurance, but not all do.

I own a car with no insurance at all, and no registration either. Only reason that a car needs insurance or a registration, and a driver needs a liscence is if he drives on public roads. On private land you don't need any of those things.

So are you advocating for requiring gun insurance only if you shoot it in public places?

Louisiana guns laws are obviously not to blame. Louisiana "The H****r's Paradise" has some of the most lax gun laws, but the problem is deeper than easy access to weaponry.

Our hearts go out to the people of Louisiana and a moment of silence... blah, blah, blah.

As long as nothing changes the NRA will be happy. Let's keep the NRA happy because the 2nd Amendment... blah, blah, blah.

Now is not the time to talk about gun laws... blah, blah, blah.

Islamic Terrorism and ISIS are expected to take credit for this heinous act... blah, blah, blah.

WAKE UP AMERICA!!!

Gun owners know guns are NOT the problem... blah, blah, blah.

Welcome to the new America. Is it what you want?

Too bad, Obama didn't take away all your guns!

News maybe reporting a Spike in guns sales by members of "Black L***s M****r".
Louisiana guns laws are obviously not to blame. Lo... (show quote)

Your "new America" has much less to do with guns and their availability and much more with the arrogance, condescension and authoritarianism by those in power. Whether it's the politicians in DC, or the state capitols or the local police, they are out of control and a revolt against them has begun. You can see that in the se******n of political candidates and the attacks on cops.

You post your "blah blah blahs" as though these murders in Baton Rouge occurred out of the blue. They didn't -- they are a response to years of abuse by the people in power. Many are content with keeping that revolt contained to the b****t box, but others have reached the boiling point. This won't be the end of it by a long shot. It's like the powers that be have been walking deeper and deeper into a swamp and have no idea where they are or how to get out of it.
