Good Morning,
I am taking a business trip to Fresno, CA next week and am trying to learn if there are any places unique to the city to photograph.
I will be centered at the Doubletree Hotel, Fresno Convention Center. My free time will be in the evenings.

Any thoughts?
Thanks
George

Well, for excitement, you could find a barbershop and watch haircuts - or find the Greyhound station, if they have one, and listen to announcements. Go to Merced (56 miles) for a bit of California history - and to get out of Fresno!

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man's fears and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination. It is an area which we call the Hedgehog Zone.

Flash trigger voltage is less than 6 volts (reference available); use it without fear.

I didn't realize that the Toyota Yaris had become a recognized unit of distance measurement. Is there a certain year that they use as a standard?

The police actually measured the distance - with a tape measure! We actually had to accompany them to the site where we first encountered an indication of injury. That's one of the reasons the preliminary investigation took more than four hours. I suspect that there were political and financial (police overtime) factors as well.

Not wanting to be picky but I guess this is: Not buckshot, birdshot

I was thinking that myself. Skeet shot is very small (#9) and, even from magnum full choke (skeet is usually shot with an open choke) would be very slow over 150-200 yards. At 300 yards, penetration would be very rare. We once took a call for a few at a golf course adjacent to a gun club with trap and skeet fields. The shot was an accidental discharge about 200 Yaris away. Three shot penetrated the victims bare thigh to a depth of about 2-3 mm. Transportation to a local hospital took less than five minutes and treatment took about 15 minutes. The police investigation took more than four hours!

I'm ecstatic that the manuals are not written in legal or legislative terminology. Then they would be totally inappropriate.

And too heavy to carry!

Sometimes people just need a translation from Manual English to normal English. Or to English from the manufacturers terminology. There is where a search on the PDF version may fail. This is also where an index in the manual becomes useful.

I have occasionally wished that I could get a Word or Pages based file of the English Version of a typical manual and, having little else to do, go through and correct/simplify some of these syntax, usage, spelling and other errors in manuals. It would certainly be an interesting exercise.

Some people might need helpful advice, like "Turn the camera ON" or "Install fresh/charged battery."

Or even "This as a camera; it takes pictures."

OK, I'm not wild about Nikon and Canon's first efforts in mirrorless full frame. I suspect we'll see better cameras as time goes on. They're just learning to walk in a world where so many competitors are running. BUT, I'm not in a position to purchase a new full frame right now. For the sake of weight, I use a couple of Fuji compacts now, although serious projects still require the D7100. By the time I get ready to upgrade my D7100 to a full frame, maybe Nikon (or Canon) will have a camera I like and can afford; maybe not. I'll face that challenge when the time comes.

Truly enjoy the UHH Macro shots of flowers, bugs, etc. Am a learning amateur.

Shoot Nikon D7200 and have the following in my lens kit: Sigma 17-70mm, Nikkor 70-300mm, 50mm prime and original kit 18-55mm. I have been relatively pleased with the look of my 300mm lens close ups of flowers, etc. Some of these I have had to crop. Have not yet tried bugs and other frisky insects.

Have narrowed the Macro lens choices down to the Nikon 105mm, f/2.8 or the Tamron 90mm, f/2.8.

So, what does the macro lens give me that I can’t get with my current kit? Obviously, better focus distance and speed, but will I get sharper images with the 1:1 real deal?

Just trying to justify the $$$ outlay.

Try extension tubes first. Much less pensive and very versatile.

Harvey, have you lost your sense of adventure? You ought to plan a trip to my neck of the woods. Our little valley is only 3600', but I can have you at 8000' in a short scenic drive. Of course, it's more fun in winter with slippery snow; you feel like a pin ball coming down.

I know this is heresy in this forum, but take a look at the latest smart phones, Galaxy Note 9, the latest Apples just released, or the latest Google phone with an open mind. They are really something, very convenient, small and handy. You still can control Apature, ISO, and other controls.

Only the purists would consider this heresy. The first iPhone was an iPod with a phone built in. Cellular "phones" today are even more so - much more so. If Sigma (?) can put PS in a camera, why not build a phone into a good compact camera? What a great way to back up your pictures; send them to your computer!
