jerryc41, please name the programs please. I have PhotoShop and am having a very difficult time learning it. If there's something out there that's cheaper or free and easier to use, please share this info!! Thanks!

When you take their photos, ask who wants to look good and who wants to look the way actually do look. I know what my answer would be. Break out the Photoshop!

Photoshop is on my list to purchase.

There are many other less expensive, even free, programs that will let you make people look better.

Hello. You could use the auto setting. That will give you decent pics. My piece of advice...BUY A TRIPOD!! They are only $20 at Walmart and Target but worth $1000 when u see the difference in your photos. Good luck!

I use CS5 but not well (Ha!). I should sit down and learn it but always find a reason why I have something else to do - even getting my eyebrows waxed has been an excuse! Oh well. You're right about PS not being intuitive. That's very frustrating to me. I was talked into purchasing a book called 'CS5: Classroom in a Book' and still don't find it very helpful. Ready for my suggestion...(drumroll...).....do a search in YouTube! You read that right! YOUTUBE!! I was looking thru that book on how to do something and found one page about it but not enough to do it myself so I turned to YouTube! I had such good luck with that that when I rec'd some new photo equip in the mail w/o directions, I went back to YouTube. I had that equipment up and running within 5 minutes!

If you are interested in the 'Classroom in a Book' still, I would purchase on Amazon rather than from Adobe. It's half the price on Amazon.

Good luck!!

Hi! I just started using YouTube to locate answers and to my surprise, am very happy! Stick with the searching! You'll find it! You'll probably come across quite a bit of porn first but you WILL eventually find your answer. I recently purchased some camera equip and the directions for setting it up were unbelievable! Nobody I know would have been able to figure out how to make it work so I went to YouTube and alas...there it was! The video was definitely not professional but who really cares? I'm up and working rather than sitting on the phone with tech support. And another thing, this happened on a weekend so I would have sat until at least Monday before getting help from tech support. So long story short (I know - too late!!), don't give up searching, try this very message board and check out YouTube. Who knows - you could be the next internet sensation! Good luck!!

Also, where on the lens does it tell me what the fstop is?

Regarding a 'fast lens...'. Why would I want a fast lens?

Also, I'm confused why I change the fstop on my camera yet the lens also has a measurement. If I have a fast lens, do I change my camera settings in any way?

Don't laugh please. I'm extremely new to photography. I looked thru this forum and didn't see this question out there.

(drumroll......)

When i decided to play around with photography, my brother gave me his old equipment. As I'm looking at the lenses, some are real large (72 and larger) and some are 55. Why are some lenses wider at the end and some smaller? What does this do? So if I wanted to purchase a 200mm lens, do I get one that says 55 on it or 72?

If you can give examples in your explanation, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!

I've used soft boxes with gels over them. Once I used a dark bedsheet over the softbox. That time actually worked out better than using the gels. Good luck!!
