Hello
Hello, What are layers, and what do they do, how do they work, it looks interesting, but not sure, Thanks
Adobe Photoshop software uses layers. They are like see-through pages in a book where you can adjust colors, erase things, add things....Google it and you can probably get a better answer than I just gave you.
Hello Mary, Thank You, Im really going to have Fun in this Program, I like being creative, even posterization, George
Youtube should have some great video tutorials on this subject (and many more photo and editing subjects).
I honestly never thought of checking out You Tube for tutorials on photography! What an awesome idea! Thanks to you alL!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hi! I just started using YouTube to locate answers and to my surprise, am very happy! Stick with the searching! You'll find it! You'll probably come across quite a bit of porn first but you WILL eventually find your answer. I recently purchased some camera equip and the directions for setting it up were unbelievable! Nobody I know would have been able to figure out how to make it work so I went to YouTube and alas...there it was! The video was definitely not professional but who really cares? I'm up and working rather than sitting on the phone with tech support. And another thing, this happened on a weekend so I would have sat until at least Monday before getting help from tech support. So long story short (I know - too late!!), don't give up searching, try this very message board and check out YouTube. Who knows - you could be the next internet sensation! Good luck!!

Sounds like you have Photoshop. If so, The Complete Guide to Photoshop's Most Powerful Feature, Layers, by Matt Kloskowski is excellent. Lots of favorable reviews on Amazon.
Layers is considered the most powerful tool in Photoshop.
OnOne software has a stand alone Layers piece of software that is also very good.
p.s. I don't have a connection with Onone other than using their products.
I have Matt K's book on layers and have watched his tutorial many times..it is very good..and on Scott Kelby's site there are many more just as good for almost any thing you run into in PS and some you had no idea you even thought about but can improve your pics and workflow tremendously..Calvin Hollywood is another one that has some great stuff out there
I just bought Photoshop several months back. Adobe has a bunch of free tutorials on their website for each of their products. Several of these involve the use of layers to modify the properties of a picture without altering the original picture (no need to have multiple copies).
Layers are most useful for enabling the user to make changes. Say you added a type layer in red and you later decide to change the color or even the position of the type, you are able to do so with ease. Once you make the final conversion back to jpeg format and everything combines back to only one layer you have no alternative but to start from scratch. Also, Matt Kloskowski definitive book entitled Layers is your best bet.
Have you or others used OnOne Software with Aperture?

No, as I don't have a Mac; however, why not call them and ask it it works with that platform.
