Nice capture Greg. Snowy Egrets are fun to watch and photo. They can actually run on top of the water with the use of their wings and snatch insects and small fish.
All white birds are difficult to properly expose in bright light. To preserve feather detail try reducing the exposure one to two stops. Also try bracketing. I have had success shooting early in the morning when the light is softer.

Nice series Tracey. Good story and nice captures.
Unfortunately the GBH nests at Viera Wetlands were raided shortly after the chicks were born. I went back to take photos and cormorants had taken over the nests.

Very nice series, Tracy. I am going to Merritt Island tomorrow. Hope to see some there.
Scrub Jays are a thretened species. Their numbers have declined dramatically. They are only located in Florida. Below is a link to info:

Nice detail, beautiful colors, portrait is well done. I agree it can be intimidating and sometimes I struggle with each post. If you are pleased with your capture, that's what counts. Most the time we are our own worst critic and we won't please everyone.

Ritchie, CarlySue said it very well. Great portait. Thanks for providing the medadata. I would be interested in reading the details of the capture.

Great shot. I think he was trying to read the name on the front of your camera.

As close as I was it would not be a problem. Thanks!

White birds are difficult. I think the # 3 is the best composition. In avian photos you generally want to get the bird's eye looking at the camera. You also want to have light on the bird's eye possibly a flicker of light on the eye called catch light. Early morning light tends to be softer. You are less likly to blow out the highlights. Many cameras tell you if have blown highlight it shows blinking lights in the blown area. In bright light underexpose by one or two stops. Bracket if your camrea has that capability. I just posted a red-shouldered hawk that has many of the features that I discussed.

I followed him from a powerline right of way to an apartment complex. He flew from the power line to a lamp post. I had taken several shots as I moved closer. When I was really close he cocked his head and looked right at me. Click!

We were looking for and eagle's nest and saw the meadow lark on a post by the side of the road. I was shooting from the passenger window. He was very patient and let us back. He then turned his head for a nice portrait.
