Thank you everyone for your comments and info, I appreciate it!
I found this great nesting pair of bald eagles in Washington County of New York today. The tree with the nest was about 1500 - 2000 yards from the road. I was using a Nikon D3100 with a Sigma DG 70-300 1:4 5.6 lense and the following settings f/11, 1/500 sec, FL 300mm. The sun was begining to drop in the sky and as off to the left of the shot. The photos are not the best but I am proud of them as this is my first eagle sighting. I am thinking of going back in a week or so with a 2x converter. Does anyone have any recommendations for such a far shot? Would a 2x converter be of any help in bringing in the shot in closer? On a closing note, these photos were taken hand held and with no PP. If anyone wants to have a go at editing, feel free and thank you!

Sorry for the loss of your best "buddy" Rob. It is so hard to let them go, but it is harder watching them suffer. Rest in peace Rusty!
Thank you every one for your very kind comments!
Lou, thank you for your comments. Actually, this lasted for quite some time. I first noticed it at 0400 when I got up that morning getting ready for work. I didn't think of shooting it as it was very dark at 0400. It was like a bright beam of light at that hour though...I never thought it would last as long as it did. I finally had a clear shot when I hit the highway, thanks Dan 8-)
I shot this photo from my moving car window on my way to work on 5/10/2005 @0532. I am told by a metrologist friend of mine that this is referred to as a solor pillar. This happens when the water particals in the atmosphere become aligned in a certain way and the lifght from the sun reflects off of the water particals creating this pillar effect. You can also see this same effect at night from the moon...that is referred to as a lunar pillar.

That shot is BREATHTAKING...You should frame it, or sell it for one of those inspriational posters!:)
Lovley but, appears a bit soft or OOF.
Yes, that is what we said too. It was a large BMW bike found in a pile of broken pieces, photos below not very clear but you can see the broken frame, just a pile of scrap now!
I shot these photos a few years ago when I used to be an EMT. A Saratoga Co., NY Deputy Sheriff was responding to an emergency when a motorcycle operator failed to stop for a red traffic light and hit the Sheriff patrol car broad side. No injuries to the deputy but severe injuries to the motorcycle operator.
The photos were taken with an HP Photosmart Point & Shoot

Steve;thank you for your kind words. In photo #1, I think that it looks tilted because of the "lay of the land". My tripod was perfectly level and plumb on the rocks that I was pearched on.
Photo #1 converted to B&W Cabin & stream
Photo #2 same stream about 1000 yards away from photo #1
Photo #3 My attempt at the "Blue Hour" Sun Set over Long Lake, NY.
Photo #4 My first attempt at "shooting the moon"
All shots were taken with a Nikon D80
Please let me know your comments both pos. & neg. thank you... Dan
