I've had the SX40 for almost a year and love it. The telephoto is awsome and low light pics are stunning. Have fun with it.

My only question to the nikon would be the fact that it is a dslr. I suppose that could be Ok. Also, the Canon sx 40 seems to be the best non dslr camera I would buy. The gx1 just doesn't seem to have the zoom. Obviously though dslr would be better but I don't know yet. Thanks for the advice. I'm in Melbourne and there is a camera show on the 27 of the month so I will buy then. Hopefully I'll have the camera I want to buy chosen out!!

Welcome to the UHH. I have a Canon SX40, and I love it. It has everything you're looking for, and can be bought for under $400.

Hi, my name is Phil, I am retired and in Oklahoma City.
I am a Photo "buff" and love taking all kinds of photos.

I have a compact Kodak easy share digital camera,
but am getting a new Canon sx40 12 mpxl.

I will be learning about this site and the new camera
and I am excited about both.

Thanks . :)

In the summer of 2003, a monument to 9/11 was dedicated in the village of Mineola, NY.

The monument was the Eagle Scout project of Edward Kaiser, who at the time was 16 years old.

Hi Dave, and welcome to the UHH. I've got a Canon SX40 and am very happy with it. I also was not ready to invest in a dslr and various lenses. The SX40 has many of the features of a dslr, from full auto to full manual. Photos are outstanding, and the 35x zoom will blow you away.

I used to do a lot of back packing when I lived in Seattle. It used to amaze how some people could pack in cans of food and and other full containers, yet couldn't pack the containers out when they were empty. Thankfully when most people camp in the high country, they are respectful of nature.
