Right! 5 degrees F is too cold for me! I visited Minneapolis too many times in January or February. It’s nice there in July, if you like 42-pound mosquitoes.

Those would be the old DSLR mosquitos. We have nice light, quiet mirrorless mosquitos now.

What a lovely collection - I really like the foggy one, particularly.

It looks like the water is a bit low. Is that a pond?

Yes, it is (or was) a pond. I've never seen it so low in the 27 years we've lived here.

The colour is beginning to fade, and the cold is taking over, as Minnesota transitions to winter.

All taken this afternoon with my Sigma sd Quattro, Sigma 18-35/1.8 ART lens.

Thank you, all, for your kind remarks about my photos. Whenever I see that the lake is very calm, I always walk a little further to see what the reflections might have in store.

I’m fortunate to have this all on my doorstep, and enjoy shooting around here all year round.

I took these on my walk this morning, down by Lake Susan.

All with my Sony RX100M7 - a wonderfully pocketable and portable camera.

For those mentioning weight, size, and quiet, those aren't photographic qualities.

Not directly, of course.

But if those attributes make your camera more pleasurable to use, with the result that you then use it more, the outcome will surely be positive to your photography.

That’s certainly the progression I found myself on when I moved to mirrorless over 10 years ago.

This is a major plus for me - after having cataract surgery, which left me with excellent distance vision, but needing readers for, well, reading, the LCD screens are pretty much useless to me unless I want to be constantly putting on and taking off my glasses. Being able to do everything through the viewfinder is great - not to mention the fact that I don’t have to wear glasses to shoot anymore.

Every year (for at least the last 15), we have a family vacation in Grand Marais, MN.

One of my favourite subjects to shoot is the schooner Hjordis which sails out of the harbour there. This year was no exception. Here are a few shots including said vessel.

These were all taken with my Leica Q2, and cropped to 21:9, because I liked the look, and it represents the great expanse that is Lake Superior well.

I hadn't used my Sigma sd Quattro for a while, so I took it with me on my morning walk a couple of times this week.

Lens was my Sigma 18-300/3.5-6.3 DC - not an 'Art' model, but quite acceptable to my eyes.

The picture as a whole is pleasant enough but I get the impression that it would benefit from a clearer focus of interest. For example the small gap in the trees just to the left of the dock plus the surrounding trees (in particular the willow) tend to draw my eye in, so it might be worth trying a crop to give that area more prominence. The reflections are excellent so you wouldn't want to lose too much of them.

Thanks for your comments. I completely agree - it doesn’t really have a clear subject, more just a mood. The constant challenge of landscape photography! I’ll play around with cropping. I do have others from the same session with more foreground interest, but this one had the best reflections.

This is my first foray into the Landscape sub-forum. I probably do more 'landscape' photography than any other genre, but always struggle with whether what I find pleasing is actually any good :)

This is a shot of Lake Susan, a short walk from my house here in a suburban corner of Minnesota. It was one of those rare mornings where it was nearly flat calm, so the reflections were worth catching. I've taken this same shot a number of times over the years, but there was something about the lighting this morning that appealed more than usual.

And fractal? Those of you familiar with the Mandlebrot Set should understand what I mean.

Taken with my Leica Q2, cropped to 16:9, and brightened just a tad in Apple Photos.
