How large a photo are you trying to produce?

Our Historical Society made some posters using historical photos from around town. They just used a local facility that produces engineering drawings and displays for presentations. A few years later our Planning Board got a large printer that would do displays up to 48" wide (not sure of the exact width but it was fairly wide). They were used for posters of events for the town and presentations at Town Meeting.

If your town does not have a large printer for such displays, they may be willing to let you know where they get things like that done. Also, businesses that rely on presentations for bids either have large printers or farm those things out and may be able to direct you to a good supplier.

Also, you may have to show that you have the right to reproduce a photo. If it's historical, it probably means you didn't take the shot. But copyrights can be extended for quite a while.

Thanks for your help. The photo in question is a family photograph so copyright is not an issue. It is somewhat smaller than an 8 x 10.
Thanks

Hello Gentle People:
Has any of you used a Print Duplication service that does a quality job of duplicating a historical photo?

Please do recommend if you had good results.

You will need about 16.5 to 20 stop ND filter (ND100000 or more). An 18 or 19 ND welder's glass is an another option. The ND photographic filter will not protect one from UV radiation while the welder's glass will cut out the UV. There are some photographic filters that will also stop UV, but they will state such in their specs, give the actual spec, and usually cost more. You cannot remove the filter from the lens until actual totality (moon totally covers the sun; no sun part of the sun disc is visible). If you remove the filter from your lens before then, you will risk damage to your camera's shutter and/or sensor. Your eclipse sun shades should stop UV if you have bought them from Thousand Oaks or such. Be sure to review all the information on the NASA eclipse site. Do not risk your eyes and photographic future.

Dear All:
I am planning to a location in the path of totality to shoot the eclipse. I am looking for recommendations on how best to shoot this event. First my equipment:
1. Canon R6, Canon RF 70 - 200mm F2.8 (good when totality is happening), A good steady tripod & a Remote shutter release.
Questions:
What kind of filter do I need to shoot while eclipse is partial? Is a 0.1% ND filter good enough protection for the R6 sensor when using an F2.8 lens?
Should I use a 400mm or a 200mm? The 400 is F5.6.
Since light will be changing fast near the totality I am thinking of using a magnetic filter kit; any issues with using those & the lens electronics?
Of course I also plan to use protective glasses for myself.
Thanks in advance for your advice.

No one works directly from a RAW file except the photographer who captured this unprocessed camera data. That photographer makes the decisions about what the WB should be, the sharpening, the noise processing, the cropping and / or leveling the horizon, so on, and so forth. The results of their decisions create the output file to be printed.

Thanks for the schooling & the recommendation of avoiding canvas to improve resolution fidelity.

Hello Gentle People:
I want to get a couple of my photos printed on a 24 x 32 canvas print. What is the best site for getting this done. Does any shop work directly with a RAW file or do you always have to convert to JPG?

Thanks

I am thinking of buying this lens to upgrade aperture without breaking the bank for a Canon RF mount F/2.8. I have the Canon F/4 24 - 240 & sometimes I wish I had more aperture.I have some questions:
1. With EF to RF adapter will there be any impact to the performance or functionality of the Tamaron?
2. Has anyone used this Lens with an R6?
3. What is your opinion of this lens?

Thanks

1. The Canon EF to RF adapter works quite well with the Tamron to Canon mirrorless body.
2. I had the Tamron SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 with the R5 but after seeing the Canon version comparison.
3. My own opinion is if you put that much money in the camera why go less in front of it. And that the Canon RF
70-200 F/2.8 is a much better lens even though it is a $3,000.00 lens, I have been amazed every time I use it.
4. And most important is only you can answer the question do you really want the 2.8 over the 4 no one
should tell you how to spend your hard earned money.

Thank you Delta49. You answered an important question for me w/r to compatibility with the EF/RF adapter.
You also verbalized the struggle I am having with regards to price & performance. πŸ™πŸ½πŸ™πŸ½
