It's called a "koteka" and was was considered by some tribes the only proper form of dress. It was also used for tribal identification since each tribe had distinctive shapes and colors.
Very cool photos, I'm glad these made it. In the one photo it's interesting to see the clash of western dress vs. tribal dress. Probably one of the last few places that even to this day has not been overly explored or exploited by colonization or western culture.
