I have both Hoya HD3 UV and B+W XS-Pro 007M MRC Nano Clear 77mm filters.
I have always used the B+W filters to 'permanently' sit on my lens.
And have not used the Hoya Filters--for no special reason other than I had the B+Ws first.
I'm expecting to receive my Z24-120 S this week and will use one of these filters.
(These 77mm filters were kept after I sold my 28-300)
Does anyone have recommendations for one or the other? Not using any one of these is a non-starter.
Thanks for your help.

In the digital age, you do not need any UV filter and they function the same as a clear filter. If you are using one for protection, I would use the B+W clear. Not much difference if you are seeking only lens protection but the B+W is rated higher and a better choice IMHO.

I have to agree with you about the phony bs on this site, mostly from people who never used this lens. I used this lens for many years and it is great. I frequently carried this with a Nikon 80-200 f 2.8 and sometimes an 85 1.4 or a 28 2.8. All were excellent lenses and this is based on actual use. I regret selling all of these lenses as they served me well. Most of the time I only carried this with the 80-200 and my pictures were great (IMHO). I would not buy a variable aperture lens or trade the 35-70 for the one identified in the original post.

Wondering if the Nikon 16-80mm 2.8-4E would be a good replacement for the older 24mm 2.8 and 35-70mm 2.8 AF Nikkors I've been using for years. My primary camera is a D500. I'm assuming the 4 means it has a variable aperture. Thanks in advance.

I had the 35-70 and it is a great lens. Sorry that I sold it. I would not buy a variable aperature lens because it it too slow.

I would get the SD to lightening adapter from Apple. I have used if for years without an issue.

I want to copy photos from my Z8/Z7ii to my IPad. I believe a camera adapter is needed between the two. Is that correct? Suggestions for a good adapter?

Apple mades SD adapters that easlisy transfer photos to an iPad. You need to identify which model. Older ones use SD to lightening connectors and newer iPads use SD to USB-C interfaces. As to other cards, you will need to transfer them through your computer by using ICloud.

There are some negative reviews on Adorama. They actually sent me an email to help them out and to write a review because they had received bad reviews. I suggest that you buy from B&H.

Hi folks,

First, Merry Xmas to all of you.

1- My family and I will visit New York city during this Holidays. I was thinking of bringing those lenses.

10-20 mm 4.5-5.6
18-70 mm 3.5-4.5
50 mm 1.8

Will this be covering my needs for street photography, cityscape and family purpose ?

2- Any must see suggestions ? First visit in NY, with my wife and my 15 and 16 years kids.

Regards,

Eric

I do not think that you will need the 10-20 but not a big deal to pack. I would go to Rockefeller Center, walk the Highline-weather permitting, go to Chinatown and Little Italy-right next to each other (good photos and food). Times Square will be a zoo but I would skip it unless you are going to a show. Of course, Central Park is great to walk through. It is hard to be in NY and not find great photo opportunities. Have fun.

When I see one of these comments in the Chit-Chat Section it makes me wonder if the original post was entered in the wrong section and then moved or is it that the person making the comment didn't know what section he was in.

I think that he continues to make that mistake. His most recent post was about his watertank.

We had a total of four kids last night - sixteen last year. Two tiny kids were escorted by their parents, and six more came in groups of two and four. In the past, we've had over a hundred kids show up, with cars lined up on the street bringing them from far and wide. I know there are fewer kids, but that's a huge drop in numbers. What in the world am I going to do with all this leftover candy?

One thing was funny/creepy. A tiny kid, maybe two years old, was escorted by his parents, obviously his first year trick or treating. As I opened the door and approached him, he looked concerned and backed away. When I held out the candy, he smiled and approached me. That's scary! Imagine that same scene with a windowless van.

The first kid arrived at 6:00, and the last at 6:50.

I am thinking about adding a full frame camera to my group of APC bodies (Nikon D7000 and Nikon D7200). I have seen a number of D750 bodies offered at reasonable prices in my local area (Houston metro) on Facebook Marketplace. Some give the number of shutter accuations, under 50,000. I would use this camera body for my closeup photography and for vacation nature and geological photography. Does anyone have anything positive or negative to say about this camera body? The sellers I would deal with offer to let you take photos with the body and my own lenses and see the results.

This is a terrific camera if you have compatible lenses. I regret that I sold mine with several lenses. It handles well and has a pop up flash (in an emergency). If you have to buy some used lenses then the investment might not be worth it.

It’s a “fixed” lens on a 60 MP camera and you can electronically “zoom” (i.e., crop) from 28mm to 35, 50, 75 or 90mm. Even at 90mm there’s still plenty of pixels tp play with.

That’s why it’s my preferred travel camera. A single, high quality Leica lens with lots of versatility.

A very good source for Leica information is the Red Dot Forum on YouTube. David Farkas and Josh Lehrer of the Leica Store in Miami have excellent presentations without a sales pitch. You can find information about the Q3 and other Leica cameras on their channel. Keep in mind that when you electronically “zoom”, you are just cropping the frame and not getting the true perspective of a 35, 50, 75 or 90 mm lens. That said, the Q cameras are great. If you were to buy an M11 or M10R as I did (used) you would have a larger hole in your wallet if you were to try to duplicate those focal lengths. (I only shoot with a 35 and a 90 on my M10R). Enjoy the camera and share your pictures with us.

I think that you will enjoy the Q3. I used to be a Nikon user for over fifty years, I shoot with a Leica M10R, and primarily use a 35mm summicron. If you shoot street photography, the Q3 is a great choice. A major advantage of the Q3 is that it has autofocus, which the M Cameras lack. As I get older, autofocus would be a great help to me. I look forward to seeing some of your pix from the new camera. You cannot beat Leica optics.

I think that you are off to a great start. I just started shooting DNG (Raw) and JPEG with a Leica M10R. You can do more with RAW files. I decided to take a one on one lesson with a local photographer in the next few weeks. Also, I found that Adobe phone support was very helpful. Best wishes and have a great trip. 3
