If I were to get some samples of Metal Paper from Red River, what should I tell my printer what Paper type in the Printer Settings?
So far I have only been using Canon's Glossy II.

Red River will include in the box instructions for both Canon and Epson printers. If you need more information their website has more data and they are responsive to questions.

I use their metalic paper to print IR images converted to B&W.

LFingar stated that Wasabi batteries were highly recommended and when I viewed them on the computer they looked just like the SmallRig batteries which were also recommended.

Because I am only looking for a backup battery I deciede to give the Wasabi a try. After I got it, charged it and insurted it, it workd just like the Canon. I was also able to view the Menu/Battery Information. Here is a link to it

So, Thank you LFingar for your tip.

Does anyone know of an off brand battery that will replace the Canon LP-E17 and fits the Canon R8? I have one ( Beston Model LP-E17) but in is 7.4 volts not 7.2 volts as the Canon model. Also, when I add this to a two battery Battery Grip the camera gives me a message asking if this is a Canon battery or not.

I have not used it as I am worried about damaging the camera body. Any advice will be appreciated.

I have found this thread very helpful but it begs the question: how do Metal prints work on Black & White images?

I made this offer to another Hogger earlier this year at no charge! See Page 2 of this thread:

https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-784081-1.html

As I still have 5 or 6 Activation codes, one is yours if you would like to recover your data. I have been using the previous Version 4 successfully for several years to recover images from some of my old hard drives from the late 90s and 00s (from my business). This new version is only a 1-year subscription while V.4 is forever! I did try RescuePro Deluxe once to make sure that it worked!

I can email you the Activation Code to enter. Google "RescuePro Deluxe" to download the software.

Be well! Ed

Ed:

Thanks for the offer of your activation codes. I have a two (2) year code form SanDisk that I got after a purchase of one of their products. However, I have not been able to activate it. I have tried several times but no luck. It is not the end of the world as I don't need the service at the moment. Maybe in the future.

All the advice you have received is great. I don't know which entrence you are going to but, you can drive in the North entrence (at least we did). The only thing I would add to the list of items is a bean bag if you are driving and a BlackRapid sling to carry your long (heavy) lens/camera.

Wish I was going with you! It is a trip of a life time.

I'm not sure this will answer you exact question, but it may help. It is a great video!

Later in the video it talks about assigning your buttons for the eye focus option.

I agree with Tracy B. and will go one step further. There is a guy on YouTube called "Wild Alaska" and he talks about doing the same thing for wildlife on Canon R8 but it will apply to any of Canon mirroless cameras. The bottom line is he sets his camera up for back button focus (AF/on button), Eye detection (* button) and the button that looks like a box with two deviders in it to (Single or Servo). The single/servo button switches between them each time you press it. Here is a link to his video.

Darrell:
I went through this process a few months ago. I have a Canon 5D mk2 converted to Infrared, 6D mk2 and purchased a Canon R8 after months of struggling. I had my eye on the Canon R6 mk2 but thought I could live without two (2) card slots and In-body-stabilization (IBIS) as I had never had them in the past and never had a card failure at all. Knock on Wood!

The R8 has worked very well for me so far as the guts of this camera are the same as the R6mk2 and I save about $1,000 over the R6mk2. The only complaint I have is that I shoot with back button focus and when I do that on the R8 I find the location AF-On button is just a little far to the right as opposed to the full body DSLR bodies. But I will get used to it over time. Of course, that is because the R8 camera uses the RP body.

Good Luck on your new adventure!

I purchased a Canon RF35mm f/1.8 Macro STM lens and found that it did not come with a lens hood. After doing some research online, I found that Canon is only supplying lens hoods on their RF L series lenses. Now what is up with that? Come on Canon! What are you trying to do, drive away your long-time customers over a few $’s for a lens hood?

As a result, I have purchased three (3) third party lens hoods. The first two (2) were Amazon.com : RF 35mm Tulip Flower Lens Hood Shade Fit for Canon RF 35mm F1.8 Macro is STM Lens Replaces Canon EW-52 Hood on Canon EOS R6 R5 RP R Cameras and both fit but, were very hard to go on and were returned. The last one was a JCC LH-W65B which was recommended by someone on YouTube. This hood is designed to fit a Canon RF24mm f/1.8 Macro STM lens but fits with a little effort.

I hope this is of some help to other Carno RF 35mm lens owners.

I have a Canon R8 which I just purchased and really like most things about it. However, when I went to photograph the Blue Angles, I thought I would use the “Vehicles” feature which is one of the selections under “Subjects to detect” and it is greyed out. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this with no results. The other options like “People” and “Animals” work GREAT.

Now I must admit, I normally would not use the Vehicles feature as I shot mostly Nature, Landscape, and Macro. So, if I don’t get this fixed it isn’t the end of the world. But it is driving me nuts.

Any ideas?

Should there be a red light when the shutter is pressed, and focus is achieved on the Canon 6D Mark II? I do not see a red light.

There is always a red light on the Canon 6D when the shutter is pressed halfway and focus is achieved.

Dynamic5: I own a Canon 6DmkII and use backbutton focus. Currently I get NO red light. However, if you go into your menu under C.FNII and scroll down to Auto Focus /AF micro adjustment/set #15 to Enable you will get a red light that flashes very fast. You will have to look for it.

Good Luck.

Yes, I also only use back button focus.

However, my problem was that my thumb touched the screen which moved the focus point to the lower right corner because the “Touch & Drag AF” function was ON and messed up the shot.

My method to get around this while I was in the field was to move the focal point (square) to the center by using the Cross Keys (left, right, up, or down) as the R8 does not have a joystick. I then placed the focal point on the subject I wanted in focus, pressed the back button to focus. I then moved the camera to compose the photo, just like I would have done on my DSLR that only had focus points in the center area of the screen.

My solution was to turn OFF the Touch & Drag AF as I did not use it as I am new to this camera. It seems that the Touch & Drag AF conflicts with the Touch Control.

Thanks for your replay and I hope that helps.
