Hi All
My cousin is recuperating from a hiking fall and has to be immobile for 6 weeks. Her next safer hobby will be photography. Can you suggest a photography book to learn from and inspire her in her new adventure?

Regards
Naomi

I would see what books she can get from the library. Those tend to be vetted. My local library has a few really good ones. The digital photography book by Scott Kelby and Digital photography complete course, Taylor et. al. are really good in my opinion.

I was able to take many wonderful photographs from my wheelchair while sitting in my wheelchair recovering from a shattered femur for several months. Even though I am still mostly in a wheelchair I went to Costa Rica for a week in December, a Caribbean Cruise and saw Mayan Runs in January and spent several days in Tucson in February. In my wheelchair or deck chair I have also taken wonderful pictures of insects, months, butterflies and birds without leaving my house.

Can you elaborate on the negatives please?

I just felt that the feel of holding the iPhone in the Otterbox case felt more natural than using the snap grip. I was able to hold the phone steadier without the grip (steady is a problem for me and I thought that the grip might help.) but that might just be me. The real negative is that it seems that it takes a few clicks for the connection to wake up when you open up the camera app. I have read about that missing clicks on another post.

I really wanted to like the Snap Grip for my new iPhone 15 pro max. But the more I used it and didn't use it on some trips I made the decision to take it back. I bought it from Kohl's so I had 180 to try it.

I was looking for a pocket travel camera for when I don’t want to travel with my DSLR. I spent some time looking and went to a camera store to look and feel. They seemed small in my hand. I couldn’t decide and realized the technology was in most cases 5 years old. Then I read a post on UHH about the snapgrip about the same time as the iPhone 15 came on the radar. As one prominent photographer said consider it a camera that also makes phone calls. I took it on a cruise with some port visits. I couldn’t be happier with the decision.

But if you don’t have a MagSafe phone you will need to attach a magnet disc (included) to your phone or case. That was the instructions that came with my SnapGrip.

I have a Snap Grip but it only works with iPhones with Magsafe. I like it very much. Interestingly I ordered mine through Kohl’s and received Kohls cash. They are $69.99 and I was not able to find them on sale even on Black Friday/Cyber Monday. The only downside is that when first put on each time it takes a couple clicks to engage the shutter but the upside once it is paired each time it is snapped on. I like it because while it holds the phone securely it is easily removed so the phone and grip can be carried in separate pockets but it attached immediately. I use mine on my iPhone 15 Pro Max. I have large hands. When I looked at options like a Sony RX100 my thought it was too small for my hands. I love the feel in my hands of my combo. Also the Snap Grip works with my Otterbox case

I contracted polio from someone who became contagious when she took the first dose of the live vaccine. I had friends who didn’t vaccinate so I made certain that my infant had an injection for his first dose. The nurse gave me a hard time about ordering it but the doctor who had worked in a third world country totally understood. I ended up with a limp all my life. I pushed myself. I passed the Army physical fitness test and came in fourth in my ROTC battalion in orienteering (like cross country through the woods with no marked course). I was turned down for the Army due to past medical history. I was an avid photographer until I was 35 and my kit was stolen. I took it up again 5 years ago. I am in a wheelchair now and still travel and take pictures thanks to my loving and devoted wife

If you don’t need a viewfinder how about the Sony RX100 current model?

Sorry. I had a brain freeze. I had been looking at two models and got them confused. The Sony RX100 does in fact had a viewfinder but is a little pricey. What I meant to say is the Canon - PowerShot G7 X Mark III. Which definitely does not have a viewfinder. The G5 X does but it has been out of stock for months.

Sorry for misspeaking. So in any case the Canon - PowerShot G7 X Mark III is a possibility if you don't need a viewfinder.

Looking to buy a new camera, can't decide between bridge or compact. Looking for a good zoom lens, not too complicated to use, not fussed about wifi or touchscreen just one that takes great shots. Budget is up to £800.
Already have a Canon 4000D DSLR and a Panasonic Lumix TZ70 that I have had for ages and loved the picture quality and zoom but is now starting to have problems so wanting one to upgrade from this that I don't have to faff about changing lenses but gives me all theup to date features of a great camera. Most of the time my DSLR is gathering dust as it's too bulky to carry everything around.

My niece may have an opportunity to acquire a used D800E from her late great uncle’s estate at a bargain price with some good lenses. She is a beginner but shoots mainly for a local newspaper. She does no post processing now but is planning to take a course. Would this be good for her or would it potentially just frustrate her? This question is mainly for Nikon users and I don’t know much about this camera other than what I read at the BH site. Right now she uses a CanonT100.

Hi,

This question is for people who are using the Tamron 18-400 lens with the 2.0 firmware update on an R7. Are you still having autofocus issues? I am considering an R7 but I don't want to stop using my 18-400 as my primary lens. I have heard at least one report of someone still having focusing issues.

Thanks you

SOOC is just using the computer in the camera to process the image. It takes the raw data and does it's own production in almost real time. So any camera settings you make are no different than making setting changes in post-processing. The only real difference is that if you shoot in jpeg only in camera you are pretty much stuck with what the computer in the camera gives you. If you shoot in raw than you can make the settings after the fact. The in camera processing is neither more nor less "real." The camera's computer does not "see" an image, it merely processes sensor data according to the assigned settings. In post processing you can create what you remember to make it "real" or create what you think is the most appealing picture.

On a tangent this is why I am really mulling over getting an R7 to replace my T7i. When I look through the viewfinder (which is nice I tried one out at a camera center,) I am not seeing what my naked eyes sees but what the processor in the camera thinks I should see and pretty much what I would get SOOC. I am not certain that I want that but I would really liked the IBIS and greater ISO range.
