PST,
Very sorry to hear of your misfortune. I have a similar condition. I had a motorcycle accident in 1996 that resulted in a brachial plexus nerve group separation around C5, leaving my left arm nearly useless.
In hope of dispelling any despair you may be feeling, I am proof you can enjoy photography with one arm. My "go to" cameras are bridge cameras; a Sony RX-10 IV and a Canon SX70 HS. For pocket cameras I also have and use a Canon SX740 and an Olympus TG-5. I've done considerable underwater photography with the TG-5.
In the DSLR realm, I use a Canon 50D and a Canon 7D, with a large assortment of lenses including a 100-400mm zoom and a 500mm fixed. To facilitate those larger lenses, I use a tripod with a Wimberley gimbal head. At the time I acquired the Wimberley, it was the only choice. I know there are less expensive gimbal heads available now. With smaller lenses, I can manage the DSLRs with one arm, but I use a tripod if it's convenient.
Some of my photos have appeared in a couple magazines, I have won awards in a photography contest, and I have pictures in a book entitled "Wildlife in Focus".
Best of luck to you,
Dick
