I have, despite being mocked and criticized, always had a minimum of a U/V filter on each and every lens I use. Regardless of camera platform, DSLR or Mirrorless. I felt it was far less expensive to replace a broken U/V filter vs the front element of a lens.

I was out shooting with my Photo BFF last week, and my camera strap broke, sending my Fuji XT-4 with the Fuji 10-24 wide-angle lens. It fell 3' onto a concrete floor. The Lens hood broke, and so did the 72 mm Breakthrough Photography X2 U/V filter. Not the front element of a $1000 lens, but a $49 filter.

Lesson learned.

It looks like you have a Hyperion Camera Strap on the camera, of which I have several. Out of interest, what part of the camera strap or attachment failed and caused the camera to fall? Those straps seem very sturdy and could actually cushion the fall if it fell onto it. Thanks.

We had a dusting of snow down in Alabama and very cold temps Monday/Tuesday, My feeder was pretty full and I could not believe the number of Cardinal pairs ( at least 10 that I counted ) that congregated outside our kitchen window around the feeder. I realize that these picts may be suboptimal by many of your standards as all were shot through a double pane window with my Z50 and the 50-250mm lens, so please don't critique the picture quality, just enjoy the number of RedBirds!!!! Actually the autofocus worked pretty good though I resorted to manual focus toward the end. Finally the small birds moved back in and the Cardinal population dropped. I can't imagine where all these birds came from.

Agree, I don't like using the FTZ at all. I went from a D600 to D850 and Z7 when they first came out from B&H. No offense to anyone but the D850 is just too heavy for me and since I am a fisherman, "like an anchor", so I decided to move to mirrorless. But the D850 is so pure and fine, that I miss just hearing/feeling the shutter and seeing results! Every camera that I have owned from my first Pentax, Nikon 8008, F4, D100, D200 etc. and upwards is much more capable than I am!!! Any move that I make will be fun. Thanks.

I jumped from a D300S to D600 and gave the DX to one of my kids and have never had both at the same time. That is a good thought to have a DX and FX and maybe should go on with the D50. It is small and I can leave in my car or outside in these summer months in Alabama to stop condensation. Thanks so much and I am enjoying reading your posts! Have a great weekend?

I am an amateur photographer, hooked on Nikon and have migrated from many DSLRs/multiple F mount lenses to Mirrorless, and sold all of my previous F mounts. I have a Z7 and most every Z mount lens available to date, including 24-70 f2.8 and preordered 70-200 f2.8. I want a backup camera to have available at all instances of a potential good photo capture mostly in this summer heat/humidity or travel when I can’t go out with my Z7 without a moisture concern or just to have the lighter weight camera available. I have no DX or F mount lens. Would you go with Z5 + 24-200mm lens and stay FX or go with the Z50 DX two lens kit and stay small/lightweight? I would also consider Z6 body as 2nd camera with the new Nikkor Z 24-200mm lens. Thanks for your input.

Thanks to all for your replies. I am thinking that maybe I should just get a large zip lock bag and take the camera outside to warm up then just leave it outside for the weekend.

How do you experts handle the transition of taking your camera outside into the current summer heat/humidity for an exposure. We keep our inside house temp at 70º and the condensation on the cold camera is excessive preventing use until it warms up; and also, can that condensation hurt the camera or lens. I have a Z7 and several Z lens. I have even thought about purchasing a point and shoot and just leave it outside so it would be ready at all times. Thanks in advance for suggestions.
