The 24-105 F4L is by far my favorite for portraits of people. It is amazing...period!
Take a look at my website: imagemarksphotography.com and go to the Gallery Titled: Emily-Head Shots..These were all taken with this lens.

I also have the 85mm 1.8 which I use for outdoor portraits and it is also fabulous. Probably the best lens in my bag....That lens works in the Dark :)

Elements is very simple to use..I've been using it for 3 years..works very well. Also, your camera likely came with some basic editing software, so try that...I just purchased Lightroom3 and am learning that as we speak..
Before you buy anything, take a look on You Tube and do a search for the program you are interested in. You'll find many tutorials that may help you make the best decision.

Take a look at zenfolio (www.zenfolio.com), you can get a free trial and have a place to post and sell your work, set your own prices and have a lab do the fulfillment for you. The paid addition is about $125 per year...fully functional website and you need to point your clients to it...It can also link with facebook, twitter, etc...

always,always,always....shoot in RAW....If you edit you have much more latitude as RAW captures more data...It is a bit more time consuming to convert & edit but if you are making any adjustments to your originsl, it's better to do it with a RAW file...

Hi! I'm Alan & I just joined your group.
I've been a Portrait/Event Photographer for many years and have established my own business over the last several years now.

My website is attached to my profile so feel free to comment & offer advice, criticism, etc...

Happy to provide my insight, recommendations on products, events or all things photography (when asked), and I'm sure I can use the guidance/help from the group.

Looking forward to great discussions!
Alan
