BrokenCanon....holding onto....yes, for a few years....then you upgrade to latest versions....
I have owned vs1 of Canon 400 2.8 IS.....after about 5 years, I upgraded to vs2 for its improvements.....then after another 5 years....I just upgraded to the vs3 (latest model) of the 400 2.8 IS...big improvements...mostly about 3 lbs lighter (moved all glass to the back) and better glass......

a key factor as well....virtually all mfgrs eventfully "drop" service to older models....so its WISE to be upgrading so that you can maintain mfgr service....
