Aperture
1/8000 stuck there.
I have auto ISO on. Going to change that and see if that makes a difference.

I’m having an issue with my D500. My guess is I have some setting set wrong that is the problem.

For some reason in manual mode and shutter mode the aperture seems to be stuck at 1/8000 no mater which lens I use or which f/stop I have set (night or day).

I’m wondering if i hit some setting that has it fixed at this aperture. I’ll take it to my local camera shop in a day or two (where I purchased the camera) if I can’t figure this issue out.

I'm trying to make it simple to send an image to Snapbridge with my D500 but having trouble figuring out quick setting set up. I have tried to find this setup option but can't seem to figure it out.

The fear and envy of the D850 is already starting. Guys please remember, using pro equipment doesn't necessarily mean better pics for amateurs and that it is what's between your ears that really counts.

I understand what you mean but actually disagree sort of. If you have the money and can afford a D850 or any D8xx as well as the D500 you have the tool to take a great pictures as an amateur. You also have months years and a lifetime hobby to enjoy and learn.

I do remember a few months ago at Yosemite taking an evening shot of Half Dome and looking at it using my new D500 saying out loud to my self after seeing how shitty the shot was, "damn I bought to good of camera". My son fell on the ground (figuratively speaking) laughing his head off.

At that moment having gone from a D5100 to D7200 and being use to kind of using them in full auto as a pint and shoot wishing the D500 had that option.

My pictures from thoughs days last April to today using the 200-500 lens have greatly improved. But I have taken thousands of shots since then including a vacation to South Africa Kruger Park. Here are a couple examples. I was on a crowded tourist truck and a couple from my area in central Florida:

Are there any rumors that Nikon will come out with a better version of Snapbridge?

yes - I agree with you - Nikon is pathetic. No need for discussions obver and over about their pros and cons.
The bottom line is they are pathetic.

Really, I resemble one of them pathetic Nikon owners. LOL I also have a cheap Sony a6000. I like the Sony but really like my D500.

My comment before about Photoshop Elements on Amazon for under $60 still stands but here is a few other things you should consider. Adobe is the industry 600LB gorilla and seems to offer what most people want and need. But then again, you may not be most people.

You have been given some suggestions for some free photo editing programs, you should download them and try them out, see if they are simple and you are satisfied with what they do. Try some of them before you buy anything.

You are using a 2014 MacBook Pro, how much memory?, what version operating system? You should see how how the program works on your computer and how long it takes to do a picture. Some are fast, some are really slow.

Look for some 30 day free trials on the paying software. That gives you a chance to work with some pics that way.

You have over 6 pages of suggestions, you could overthink this to much. There is no perfect editing program especially for under $75. If there was, Photoshop would be out of business, and they aren't.

Good luck to you.
My comment before about Photoshop Elements on Amaz... (show quote)

I have an older i7 MBP. Months ago, I upgraded to 16 gigs RAM and 1TB SSD drive. Seems like a new computer to me. Boots up in 23 seconds. I use Adobe CC LM/PS but have not learned to use PS yet... Lot's of YouTubes to watch on PS in my future. I paid for Adobe CC full year. Don't like monthly payments.

It seems you did a good job with the focusing of this photo. Because of limited depth of field you couldn't have all of the birds in focus. It would have looked odd if the birds across the street were in focus and the one close to the camera was not in focus.

Thank you, I do think it's discusting that she feeds them. There are times there are 40 or more birds and poop is all over her front yard and house roof. But I practice on them. Caught this one the other day when I came home from work.

The 51 red dots are the available focus points. They were not used in the single point focus - I just displayed them as an overlay to the images for context.

Sometimes I use single point focus and wish I did not. In this shot I'd like to have all the birds in focus taken across the street where the crazy bird lady feeds them. She also is a crazy cat lady with dozens of cats then there are the dogs...

I am surprised that nobody ever bothered to note the serial number of the original item to compare to the "new" item.
