My comment before about Photoshop Elements on Amazon for under $60 still stands but here is a few other things you should consider. Adobe is the industry 600LB gorilla and seems to offer what most people want and need. But then again, you may not be most people.
You have been given some suggestions for some free photo editing programs, you should download them and try them out, see if they are simple and you are satisfied with what they do. Try some of them before you buy anything.
You are using a 2014 MacBook Pro, how much memory?, what version operating system? You should see how how the program works on your computer and how long it takes to do a picture. Some are fast, some are really slow.
Look for some 30 day free trials on the paying software. That gives you a chance to work with some pics that way.
You have over 6 pages of suggestions, you could overthink this to much. There is no perfect editing program especially for under $75. If there was, Photoshop would be out of business, and they aren't.
Good luck to you.

I have an older i7 MBP. Months ago, I upgraded to 16 gigs RAM and 1TB SSD drive. Seems like a new computer to me. Boots up in 23 seconds. I use Adobe CC LM/PS but have not learned to use PS yet... Lot's of YouTubes to watch on PS in my future. I paid for Adobe CC full year. Don't like monthly payments.
