To johnlutz:

2nd question: are these JPG files? They can be compressed - standalone. That's another free utility

OK. I took these photos of a luncheon for the garden club that I had to send to the General Mgr for posting. I use a d850 so I know the photos are high megs. I am now the photo guy for the community and will be doing this for at least a year.
First Wow how you replyed, fast thanks.
Second, do you think this is the best app for the transfer of big files?
I have never used this forum for INFO. Thought about it after asking my boss Dr. Mary and decided to use this.

Should I use WinZip and pay for the subscription or find another app that everyone can use. WinZip is only $45 but can anyone open the zip files??

Where are you using WinZip? If a phone, I have nothing to contribute. If it's Windows computer, there is a free program that will handle it and other compression formats.

Is there a way to examine the exif data in a photo some one has posted? Right now I save it and look at it in a Nikon editing program such as NX studio.

FastStone will do it along with some editing tools.

Do a search. It's freeware

Just call me Mr. Fixit or Mr. Glue. I will attempt to fix anything with nails, screws, rivets, stove bolts, cotter pins, staples, and tape. I'm on my 3rd bottle of Gorilla Glue. Oh, that is, anything but cameras and lenses. Glue on a memory card that you actually insert in a camera- REALLY? Forgetaboutit! Toss it and get a new card! If any of that stuff flakes off and gets into your camera, you'll have a repair bill that will far exceed the cost of several new cards. Imagine if the glue ain't quite dry and the card gets stuck in the slot after the glue hardens or expands.

Compare to the ongoing cost of film and even basic processing in the olden days, cards are your cheapest commodity. I keep a dozen of them on-hand and rotate them- they last for years. If there's any sign of deformation, excessive wear, damage, or poor contact in the reader- out they go. Besides potential damage to your camera, a makeshift repaired card can fail and cost you good photo ops.

You have a multi-thousand-dollar camera- you're gonna mess with a delaminated card- I hope not!

I have as SD card reader built into my computer. Yesterday, I took the card out of my camera, inserted it in the slot on the computer, and dowloaded the photos to my computer. As I was inserting the card back into the camera, somehow, I noticed that the card appeared to be separating into two halves. Sure enough, I checked it, and it was separating. I don't know when it started separating, but I was thinking, it would be a shame to go out on a photo shoot, take photos all day long, and find out the card was defective. Now, yes, I have dual card slots, and I can code the second card slot as backup, but, still, I will, every time I remove the card from my camera, give it a careful visual inspection before reinserting it into the camera.

SD cards are cheap. Time to give this one a decent burial.

On July 17, 1968, I arrived in Atsugi, Japan, on my way to DaNang, RVN. I’d done a lot of research, so I went immediately to the NX and handed over $121.00 for a Nikkormat ftn. I shot with that until 1987, when I switched to a N8008. From there I’ve moved to an N90, a D1, a D200, a D300, and a D800e. I don’t have any plan to move away from the D800e as my primary camera; there isn’t a thing I want to do that I can’t do with it.

One other note, in December of 2012, my youngest son told me he wanted to start shooting seriously. I told him I had a D300 in good shape that I’d give to him. He said, “No, I want to start like you did. I want a Nikkormat.” I said “Fine, don’t do anything.” I went to eBay, found a good Nikkormat, and had it sent to him. About a week later, before he could see a single image from the camera, he passed away. Our last conversation, two nights before his passing, we talked only of photography and his camera.

That's sad. My condolences.

My dad had given me other cameras but my first purchase on my own was a Nikon "F" with a FTN meter and F2 50mm lens fifty years ago and I still have it and it looks like new.

I have owned a D80 and D90 for my first digital cameras. I have also owned a D600 and currently own a D7000, D810 and D500 with a Z6ii on order.

Needless to say I am a Nikon fan.

I was about to do a country-wide tour with a barbershop group and wanted to create some photographic memories. Didn't have much $$ so I got this rangefinder plus a light meter. I think I got excellent results. That was 60 years ago.

I'd love more high detailed pics of your Nikon. Eventually, I moved on from the Sears Tower to a Canon A1 and its FD series lens

I've always wanted to get a shot of Horseshoe Bend by Page Arizona. Yesterday was the day. Then about an hour later the transmission in my old trusted truck let go and had to be towed to Flagstaff. The highs and lows of picture taking.

OH! That was a beautiful shot. Resolution great. That is a keeper. Sorry about the truck.
