My wife has the Tamron 18-400 on her D7100, she also does not like changing lenses. It is a great lens for the money.
Looking at some of her images makes me question why i lug around a 150-600 g2. Got hers used from keh for slightly over $300.00

3rd party lenses are much better than they used to be. I have mostly nikon glass but also have a tamron 150-600g2 a sigma 70-200 2.8 and a tokina 28-70 2.8 pro atx. All have good to great images.
If i didnt have the tokina i would not hesistate to get the tamron 24-70 2.8 g2. I still might.

My wife uses one on her D7200. She loves it, it did have a back focusing problem when we got it, but that was quickly fixed with a little adjustment.
She has had no other issues, yes its a bit soft at the long end, she just doesnt use it at the long end. Probably 35-350 is her minimum and maximums.
Tamron makes some very good lenses(i have the 150-600g2 and love it.) The 18-400 isnt in there best lens catagory but for what it is the price is right.

You have a lot of good advice above. I currently use a Nikon D810 and D7200 and am happy with what i have (for the moment).
My comment is more geared to the RV travel side.
5 years ago my wife and i sold our house, bought a 40 ft class A rv (no slide outs) and started to travel, (our plans where 2 yrs max.) After 2 yrs we traded the class A for a 40 ft 5th wheel (with 3 large slides) and are still in it, the RV life is as addicting as photography.
We had absolutly no plans except to drive wherever we wanted each morning when we got up. We have no regrets and no plans to stop yet....
Buy whatever you want, enjoy everywhere you go, spend as much time as you care to in each location.
Last year we stopped in colorado and are still here. With semi plans to sell her new car and head to Whidbey Island WA. In the late spring.
Congrats on the new RV, have a great time. And BUY whatever you want in photo equiptment.
But most of all, enjoy this time on the road, take to many pics, eat to much local foods, spend more time than expected. We have and have no regrets.

Zeiss packets in the field.
But i use Calyptus liquid and cloths at home.
It is made from plants no alcohol or ammonia.
And designed specific for lenses with coatings.
I always use the rocket blaster and lens brush first.
I am a bit ocd, or odd when it comes to my lenses or any photo equiptment for that matter.

I have Vello grips for my D810 and D7200. They both fit and perform properly. I saw one on a friends D800e thats why i went with them. If i had to buy the Nikon grip, i would have to do without.
They might not last as long and i would not trust them on a tripod. But they work. And they are inexpensive.

I would like to see his findings expanded to 3rd party lenses and testing results. And at more aperture settings.
I have only had my D810 for about 9 months and want to add a couple more lenses, but hesitate after reading his article until i find more about other lens options.
Does anyone know of a list (not put out by nikon) that might list lenses and there limitations. Without having to research each individual lens.

Great pic. The detail in his eye is amazing. Not that the rest is not, i just for some reason fixated on his eye.
I have not gotton into focus stacking (yet).
How many images do you typically use?

If anyone cares to check out the folowing article it has some interesting info about nikons lenses.
Also according to it the nikon 24-120 f4 vr does not have enough resolving power to meet the 36mp D810. Which it is often packaged with. Why do you figure Nikon would package a lens that is not able to handle the mp of the camera its packaged with?
Anyway just thought this was interesting.
I have read a couple other articles by Mansurov and he appears to be very knowledgeable, and have heard other possitive things about his articles.

I also was under the impression that there "BGN" lenses or bodies where pretty beat up. There site states that these are 70-79% of original. I have purchased 2 lenses from them one in EX+ and the other in EX conditions and i could not tell that either one had ever been used.
Some of the price differences between BGN and EX are several hundred dollars.
Like the Nikon 70-200 2.8 vr. EX is $1063.00 and same lens in BGN is $676.00. That much difference in price would concern me enough to go with the higher priced.
It is indeed interesting to hear that there apears to be a lot less wear and tear on the BGN items.

Has nobody told you that a comment online with no emoji may be viewed as serious??

My wording, such as lol, vicious rat terrior and bigfoot, should qualify as not serious. But humorus.
And no. I have never had anyone attack any comment for lack of those stupid emojis. Which i do not use, often, unless talking to my grandchildren.

I have never sold my 'work', and never expect to. There is nothing wrong with any one having a hobby as long as expenditures are reasonable.
