If you can encase your set in a light tight box, a simple tome exposure and multiple flash pops using a switch extended out of the enclosure should do the job. Perhaps with the camera teathered to a computer.

I am planning my first visit to the southwest, (Grand Canyon, Sedona, Zion and Bryce for two days only in each location). Have found some great advice on this forum and I am seeking some help with filters. I am using an Olympus OM-D E-M1 Mark II with Zuiko ED 12-100 f/4.0 IS PRO lens, and I have started with a UV filter, a polarizer and a graduated (6 to 10) neutral density filter. My challenge is to understand better how to best utilize the polarizer and the neutral density filters. I understand there is more to learn than can be easily posted here, but I must start somewhere...

Chuck the UV filter, use a lens hood to protect your lens, use the pola for drama in the middle of the day and the ND for daytime time exposure using a tripod.

I have a western digital "my passport" external hard drive, 4 tera, that i have been using for the last year or so to store my photos. Lately I have been having a problem booting up the hard drive. Doesn't seem to be able to find the HD to start it when I plug the hard drive in. Recently i have begun to 1) plug the hard dive in and then 2) reboot my Mac. Then the hard drive is recognized and I can start the hard drive. Has anyone else run acroos this issue with xtrnl HD's, could it be the cable, or should fear the worst and try to get a new external HD and then move all my photos to the new hard drive ?...eeek...thanks for your help ya"ll...

Sounds more like a Mac issue then a HD issue. I use two external HDs plus my computer HD. I will not use anything Apple.

Why eliminate standard time? It's the daylight saving time that should be eliminated.

Why doesn't everyone just stay on Standard time. It works for AZ and HI.

Has anyone tried or been successful at adapting a DSLR to a 4x5? I've got a beautiful Calumet folding wood field camera that I absolutely love. I would love to put it back in service. Right now it sits on a shelf on display. I do not nor do I anticipate being able to process B&W film again. I've been looking at various options and right now the only viable one is an adapter from Fotodiox, but I don't know if it will work. I've sent an inquiry and am waiting for a reply. Like I said, just wondering if anyone has tried this. Any info would be appreciated.
Thanks!! :)

Back in the film era I had a plate with a nikon extension tube mounted on it. The plate replaced the 4x5 back of my Sinar allowing me to mount a Nikon body on the view camera. Great macro/micro stage.

That’s only bad news for freeloaders.

Freeloaders, I think you just defined most state employees and all elected officials. Most state employees could be cut by fifty percent. I don't pay any more tax then I'm forced to.

If you want the macro capability go with the Nikon 105G.

Unless you're shooting on a copy stand, then you'll want the shorter lens.

A normal lens might not be wide enough to do table shots.

I used a normal lens for weddings all through the 1970s, I was able to do table shots without issues.

Will be taking family and player shots at our high school baseball teams banquet. There will be both outdoor and indoor shots. Its senior night so there will be shots taken with players and their parents as well as team photos. I have the D7200 with a Tamron 70-200 G2 and a Nikon 18-140 with Godox flashes. Was thinking of renting a D850 and maybe a good 24-70 lens just for this night. Thoughts on if its worth the combo or just getting a good lens for the family and group shots. Space inside can be close so the 70-200 is out.

Just buy a 35mm f1.8. You should be able to shoot everything with a normal prime.

I got my first 35mm camera in 1960 and every shot was manually exposed, except for the ASA (now ISO). After a while, I bought and used a light meter and my pictures became a lot better and much more interesting.

Lately I've seen quite a few questions regarding manual shooting and wonder why one would ever want to shoot entirely in manual mode, except in some very rare circumstances? At best, manual mode is a guess about the proper exposure settings, although some photographers can probably do a passable job. Certainly, I can see setting two variables manually and letting the camera set the remaining variable automatically, but totally manual exposure, I don't see.

What am I missing? Does "manual" mean setting two variables manually or does it mean setting all variables manually? Are manually exposed shots better in some way? Is it just a guessing game and the one who gets the closest to a great exposure wins the game? Help...

I too started shooting in the 1960s, with fully manual cameras. I feel a lot of todays photographers saying they only shoot in manual are engaging in one-upmanship, they are the real and/or pure photographer in doing so.
As someone who has used everything from Minox spy cameras to the Polaroid 20x24 with most in between sizes, as fully manual, when I go out with my Nikon DSLR, it's on P mode.

I currently own what I would consider to be a medium-sized CF tripod; however, I am 6'6" tall and when using my tripod, I have to extend the single middle section of the tripod to get enough height for me to comfortably view my subject. I really don't want to break the bank for a tripod but I do need something taller that won't require extending that center section which causes stabilization issues. Any advice would be extremely appreciated.

Look at the big aluminum Gitzos.

Hi All, well, after a year of study, practice, and many free shoots, I think I’m finally ready I market my photography business to paying clients. I have a website, but I’d love to know where the professional photographers here advertise their business. I spoke to Groupon, but after they collect their extortion fee, there is very little left for the photographer. I’ve also tried Craigs List but for some reason my ads are flagged for removal and now my credit card must be blacklisted because the site won’t let me try again. This group has always come through in the past, so I look forward to your creative suggestions for how I can market my new business. Thanks!

My joy is “being out there” shooting. Must consider a laptop/not desktop. Want to download my card And use software with an easier learning curve used photoshop 5/Picassa and Lightroom (with some difficulty. What specs for computer with 15-17” screen or ,what computer would you advise
Thanks. Gtwmdo

I'd echo previous comments to look at Dell laptop in 15 inch, my 17 inch laptop is a beast fit only to stay on a desk. I say stay away from Apple as I think they are overrated and overpriced. I'd also suggest a pair of external hard drives for image backups. For software, look at GIMP, if you've used Photoshop you can figure out GIMP, and it's freeware.
