I just helped a friend with a stuck 95mm polarizer on a Tamron 150-600 G2 - I put a long zip tie around the knurled part of the filter, tightened it and used my thumb against the locking head to get a good grip, and the positive teeth on the inside of the tie engaged the knurling on the ring perfectly - it came right off.

Very cool idea!

Sometimes the lightest touch of the shutter button is all it takes to cancel the review mode. The next time you shoot make sure your index finger is completely clear of the shutter release and see what happens.

Another vote for Roberts - I've always had exceptional luck with them and amazing customer service. Highly recommended.

Check out my new video - all about Auto ISO - everything you ever wanted to know (geared towards Nikon, but much of it applies to any camera).

OMG! Steve Perry you are the man! I've just freed up a stuck 62mm Nikon NC filter on my AF 200mm micro Nikkor f/4D ED which has defied removal for over three years now... I've invested in several "Filter Wrenches" which weren't up to the task...

It was magic! 40 seconds on High Heat with an 1875 Watt Hair Drier that I only have in the studio for talent that arrives with wet hair (happens more often than you might imagine...)

btw, I dawned a pair of heavy duty deerskin gloves to protect my hands from the intense heat...
They also proved a fierce grip on the filter once heated...

Steve I'm a major fan of yours now...even though I rarely shoot wildlife...
It's amazing how experience is so very precious and to be cherished...
OMG! Steve Perry you are the man! I've just freed... (show quote)

Your hair dryer solution worked wonderfully for my 95mm stuck filter, Steve. Previously, I was going to take my camera with the stuck filter to a local camera shop for help. Then I came across your comment, doing search on UHH... It took me 2 minutes to resolve!! Thank you so much!

Happy to help and glad it worked :)

Samsung T5 SSDs - no issues, super fast, very reliable, and can even take a fall (I'm clumsy). I have seen more than a few spinning drives get dropped and stop working while conducting my workshops - I've never seen an SSD drive fail due to a short fall - or any fall in fact (not that they can't, I just haven't seen / experienced it).

If the air outside was colder than the air inside the car, you were getting heat distortion. People often dismiss it because they don't fully understand it, but I'll bet you a lunch that's what it was. A rolled down window with a temperature differential between the inside and outside is 100% guaranteed to cause heat distortion / diffraction and it will interfere with the AF system. You must have the car at the same temp as the outside air. (And you should shut the engine off too to reduce vibrations). This should help:

Honestly, I'd ask your workshop instructor. There are probably priorities for the workshop and he/she would be the best person to ask what types of images the group will be pursuing.

I also think the way of thinking behind a camera has a lot to do with whether people grew up with film or digital. Back in the film days most of us were far more strict about using the entire frame than peeps growing up with digital as many digital pics are very often used in small sizes thus the crappiness of heavy electronic "zooming" is less obvious - the peeps on FB don't care

That's an incredibly good point.

Yes I can see what you described happening in my own images- Increased noise, decreased resolution! Made me rethink walking away when the object is just too far away. Some scenes are meant to enjoy but not meant to photograph. I would rather post process fewer that have potential than many without. Thanks for that wake up call.

Amen!

For me, I just enjoy being out with the wildlife. If I can get a shot, that makes it even better. I figure if you're only doing nature photography for the photography, you won't be in it for long!
