I've noticed the same thing with hibiscus, Tom. The hotter the temps the smaller the bloom, and when the temps are cooler, the blooms stay on the plant longer than they do otherwise.

That's spot on, Donna. I'm getting 2-2 1/2 days out of them. I've had Hibiscus way in the past that the blooms only lasted 1 day and never more than that. Always picking up fallen blooms from it.

i discovered some showy and delicate cosmos way back on the
"back 40" the day before yesterday and took some shots. i hiked
back there again yesterday to admire them some more, and those big
whimsical blooms were gone!

i'll bet you a buck you can guess who the culprit was.

Nice shots, Merry. The last one is my fave.

Gorgeous shots of your beautiful hibiscus, Tom!! I hope she rewards you with a zillion blooms next year!! 😊😊

Thanks, Donna. A zillion and one thanks. The blooms are really large in diameter this year, about 5 inches. We've been having chilly nights around here lately, about 45 degrees, and that seems to slow them down somewhat. Gives them some time to expand their diameter maybe? Who knows? It's all good that they're still hanging around for now.

When I was a kid back in the 50's my mother would often cook Asparagus. By cook, I mean heat it up on the stove after opening the can. Wasn't all that great. We never had fresh Asparagus. I don't know why. Fast forward to the mid 60's to now, the wife and I only have fresh asparagus. It's the only way IMO.

Don't you hate to see them go, Tom? 😢 Beautiful shots with glorious color, and your hibiscus will most likely reward you with even more blooms next season!

If you recall, they were a long time getting those first blooms out - a good 2 months of waiting. I take it in the house during winter and place it next to a sliding glass door. It was trimmed down a bit and seemed to do fine in the basement. I'm going to trim it less than I did last year and we'll see what happens next spring.
Yes, I do hate to see them go. Such a pretty bloom. Thanks, Donna for your nice comments.
Always good to hear from you.

I probably only have one more blooming cycle on the Hibiscus plant this year. I'll trim it a little and put it in the basement by the sliding glass door in the next couple weeks.
