I think most are made to be washed in the washing machine (provided they don't have gas or oil on them) and would come out clean/normal. If they were shipped with some kind of chemical a trip through the washer should alleviate any worries. I have washed and reused the red shop towels/rags myself, but only if they did not have bad stuff from a clean-up (like gas/oil/paint, etc.) and you should be fine. They are normally just cloth, and you could re-use them..

The reason I mention the gas/oil part is because a friend (welder by trade) washed a bunch of gas/oil soaked in the washer and the fumes ignited in his garage when they got to the gas water heater, he had a flash fire/mini explosion, got burned, nearly lost his garage/home if the fire dept. had not been so quick to arrive.

These shop towels are paper; I shudder to think how they would fare in a washing machine. Also, they are white.

I am wondering if these shop towels would work safely as a replacement for the usual kitchen ones. Not concerned about using them for surface cleanup, but for wrapping food products to microwave. Might the shop towels have a chemical treatment that would not be in the best interest used in food preparation ? They don’t feel or look to have any chemical additives. I bought a case of 8 boxes (100ct each) and will not come close to using them up in my lifetime - as shop towels. We use a lot of paper towels in food prep; have not run out but also have not been able to purchase any since the hoarding began.
Thoughts/insights?

Funny, when I was in the Navy (early ‘60s) the joke was “using a condom is like taking a shower wearing a raincoat”.

Unfortunately thousands upon thousands of restaurants, and other businesses won’t be opening again. The National debt, will put the country in dire financial situation.

Once we return to business as usual I would not be surprised to see a hefty tax increase designed to offset the huge debt. Most of us tax payers will have to bear the burden.

I returned from our local Food Lion store this a.m. So many shelves empty one would think the store was going out of business. We bought the last 5 boxes of facial tissue. Not hoarding; wife and I both have continual runny noses. No other paper products except paper plates. The meat area was near bare. Basic produce was available. Bread products very low. Milk available in the larger sizes. The primary item we wanted was eggs. None available. Store employee said eggs are expected tomorrow, but did not know when. What I did not expect was a run on cheese. Out of all varieties. No grilled cheese sandwich for me. Store had only a few customers. There very well could have been more employees than customers.
I did manage to spend a bit over $100.00 on "stuff " which I sanitized upon returning home. What a PITA that is, but feel it is necessary per current wisdom. Just about every item on store shelves have been touched by human hands, both employees and customers. How are you dealing with that issue?

I recently purchased on eBay a health smartwatch ( Casio) to use while exercising using my fairly new exercise bike, which has a bluetooth function. The bike`s heartrate function accuracy, to be kind, is way off the mark. Thus, I decided to buy this health watch, which has, among a zillion other functions a bluetooth function. Plan was to use the watch`s bluetooth function to send the heartrate data to the bike's video screen.
The issue: all of the functions must be downloaded from Casio`s website via a smartphone. Cannot do it with a tablet. The watch is compatible with both Android and Apple iOS operating systems. I have no smartphones, but have a Samsung and Apple iPad tablet. I did try both to download. No dice. Please tell me, in simple language if possible, what is the reason downloading from a website via a smartphone is different from doing it with a tablet. I asked the seller who confirmed that one must set up the watch only with a compatible smartphone.

AR is still very much alive. It is now VOXX Acoustic Research and is still in Cambridge , MA.

Thanks. Glad to know that. Now, if only I can get a warm and fuzzy about my question. I could take a chance and buy off eBay, since the prices are pennies on the dollar. If it doesn't work, well no big loss.

This is an audio equipment question. Several years ago I purchased a pair of Acoustic Research (the brand is most likely defunct by now) wireless outdoor speakers. AR produced several models over the years; each transmitter has a model # matching the speaker model # as well as varying in transmitter shape. What the transmitters have in common are they transmit @ 900mz and for audio output plug into the headphone output located on the front of most receivers/amplifiers. What I want is another transmitter, for convenience use on another floor. Been following auction listings on eBay for a while. Several models are listed, but not mine. The question is : given the above specs, is it likely that the transmitters would work on more than one model, i.e. interchangeable? Some of the model #s listed on eBay are close to mine.

You've probably heard that hand sanitizer is basically unavailable. Fortunately, we have plenty on hand in the house. Of course, we also have soap and water, so we don't use that much sanitizer. From what I've heard, using soap and water is the preferred method of washing your hands. I'm sure we've all seen people leaving a rest room without washing their hands and also those who give their hands a quick rinse, rather than actually washing them.

Another important practice is keeping your hands away from your face. Of course, all these precautions assume that you have dangerous bacteria on your hands. Good luck staying healthy, everyone!

As for the shortage of hand sanitizer, make your own.

I used to work at Lowe’s, and the policy that was in place at that time was the military discount needed to be attached to the “My Lowe’s “ card. This card is not a credit card, but a tracking program that is used to track, among other things, purchases and the payment method used. Very helpful during returns without receipt as long as you remember to carry the “my Lowe’s” card.

I too am retired military and pay attention and shop at establishments that offer a military discount.

I haven’t received the email referenced above.

This sounds like Lowe's policy varies across the country (and per a previous post, HD). A high school classmate of mine who lives 4 houses up the street from me has yet to receive the email. I decided to create an account to see where this leads, but after entering required data on the first page the screen returned to the start page without any error notice. Tried again; same result.

Some time in November we shopped both Home Depot and Lowes for a washer dryer set. Both had the same ones on sale for the same price. HD would not give a veterans/military discount on top of the sale price. Lowes did. Guess who got the sale.

If Lowes stopped giving the active service and vet discount on appliances and anything on sale, they'll lose a lot of sales.

It's not like they lost money on those sales. Are they having financial difficulties? If not, sounds like they are getting greedy, disappointing a lot of loyal active/vet shoppers.

I did buy a major appliance at HD last yr and not get the vet discount because the item was on sale.

Lowes to all vets at all times. HD only to active duty, retired military, disabled military and all vets on holidays, Veteran's Day, Armed Forces Day etc.

I am a “reguler” veteran and have always received the discount at HD, on holidays or not. Apparently the rules vary by region or other variable.

Once registered you never need to go through that process again. All you do after that is give the cashier your phone number to get the discount.

I registered over a year ago and have been providing my phone # at point of purchase. So, according to some posters I am already registered. If that is true, why did I receive the email and why has Lowe`s called this a new military discount policy? Or perhaps Lowe's discount policy was , up to now, not universally implemented nationwide.

Woke up this morning to an email from Lowe’s announcing a new policy re the 10% military/veteran purchase discount. As of April 1 (interesting choice of date), to receive the discount the veteran must have opened a Lowe’s credit card account and added requested mil/vet info. Sound familiar? I’ll bet this is designed to offset the 10% by banking on a percentage of vets maintaining a credit balance and paying a monthly balance on Lowe’s card vice Visa or other mainstream cc.
For me, I will simply drive about two blocks further up the road from Lowe’s and make a right turn to HD. HD, so far, only asks for an ID to receive the discount. I will use Lowe’s in lieu of HD if HD does not have the product I want; and then the can keep the 10%. With the new policy, I wonder if the cc will be required to be used to obtain the discount.

Cool (I do remember the “gimmick”). I have never seen dual vibrators in a radio. I was probably the late 50s when the first available (top hat) power transistors, the Motorola 2N255 and 2N256 became available, and it wasn’t long before vibrators were replaced. I still design and build tube amps both for audio and ham radio high power HF/VHF/UHF amps. Love the sound and that warm glow 😍.

I think vibrators have been repurposed 😎
