You might look into a brand called Feisol. They are quite good,and best of all, modestly priced. I have had one since spring, and have been very happy with it.

Check out a fairly new brand,called FEISOL. They are moderately priced and very strong. Easily hold my Canon Mark 2 with a 100- 400mm mounted. Using a Really Right Stuff ballhead, (not so moderately priced). Tried to go the cheap route with other bullheads,and was never happy with them. Bit the bullet and went with RRS, have never regretted the move.
