Good Morning, everyone. I watched the tripod video - interesting, but had one serious objection: (for all you serious Canon people out there)... he had a Nikon strap on his Canon camera...ug....
Ok, on to my question: I had a Bogan 3221 tripod with a 3047 head - sold them a year or so ago, now want to get a new tripod. The Bogan was sturdy, although little heavy tripod. Any suggestions for a new one. Manfrotto looks like a likely candidate.

Giotto's legs gimbal head
I have BOGEN tripod since 1987. It is strong but heavy. Still you will only pry it from my crotchety hand when I am dead!!!
That said, if you want to purchase a tripod, first check if you really need one and where. Then select one that will support your equipment, weight and weight distribution . Finally check the various tripod that will fit your requirement by reading the user's comments in specialized forum or sites like Amazon, B&H and so forth.
That said, some folks like JR1 (or me) will swear by what they know best and use the most, it does not mean that the recommendations will be of the shoe you need.
Nothing at all wrong with the 3221 you had, they are literally the most popular tripod ever made, and still are, the current name is the Manfrotto 055 series.
You head however, was a dog. It was good in a studio environment but way too slow to adjust in the field. A good quality ball head is the most versatile choice you can make for 80-90% of your shooting.

You must have been watching Kai from DigitalRev TV?
I use the 055XPROB, Solid. I prefer a gimbal head on this unit. For pro bodies and heavy glass
for lighter duty rigs, 50D, 60D with light lens I like the 190XPROB with a pistol grip ball head.
I also have an adorama house brand carbon tripod for lightweight stuff. P&S or Bridge camera.

Some people will never be happy with what they have because there is always something new out there that looks better. A couple of pounds. So what. Only an excuse to buy something new. Spend more time taking pictures instead of looking what is the newest.

Was that Kai on DigitalRevTV? He tends to do that with the straps.

I have the xprob bought as a backup to my Giotto's legs it doesn't compare stability wise and ask said I have noth
You might look into a brand called Feisol. They are quite good, and best of all, modestly priced. I have had one since spring, and have been very happy with it.

I don't have any experience with this one but I'm currently considering this travel tripod from Benro:

Amen !!! To what cthan said.I use a Bogen 3020 with a mod 168 ballhead. Both could be considered antiques I suppose but they work fine for me. If it ain't broke ,don't fix it!The tripod and head weigh 8 lbs which I guess would be too much for some to carry but I'm used to it .
