Well I guess it always happens sooner or later; - almost out of leave - so back to sea again for 2 months from 11th October. . . which means only basic e-mail facilities & no internet. It's always busy but I think I will take my camera with me this trip.
At least I should be home again for Xmas & New Year's celebrations.

Have a look at the Nissin Di622 Mk2 Flash; - (Nikon fit, obviously). It can be used on & off camera, has a good GN number, bounce & swivel head, adjustable power output, and works off camera either using wireless commander or by being triggered by your pop-up (on camera) Flash. Costs a LOT LESS than a Nikon Flash of comparable power & specs.

Have to admit I'm not too impressed with the Nikon D3200 after reading the reviews. It's good in parts - BUT: do you really need a 24 megapixel sensor on a "base model" camera? - (Huge file sizes = more computing power needed for processing). Also the rest of the camera hasn't really "caught up" with the sensor, so limited gains to be had. I'd either go for the D3100 OR the D5100, depending on your requirements & budget, and spend cash on good lenses. - I have the D5100 because I wanted the flip & swivel LCD screen facility.
PS: Sony ARE making some nice DSLRs, - depends if you're happy with the electronic Viewfinder there.

I also have the Sigma 18-250mm DC OS HSM Lens on my Nikon D5100 as I didnt really w - so bought the D5100 body & the above Sigma lens. Very happy with the performance of the lens. However NOT all Sigma - OR Nikon lenses get good ratings in pro reviews; - they all "stack up" differently, - so you can just as easily find a mediocre Nikon lens as find a good Sigma lens. Try to find pro reviews on the lens/lenses you are interested in, - then make a choice.

I found the same problem on my 18 - 250 lens at wide angle; (18 - 22mm). One way around this is to buy a filter that is say 10mm bigger than the Lens thread of your lens and a step-up ring to go with it. My lens is 72mm thread, so I bought an 82mm thread/diameter circ polariser filter and a 72 - 82mm step-up ring for it. Hope this works for you.

yes, there were quite a lot of disappointed passengers that trip; - not being able to get ashore was quite a bummer! Hope you get to call this way again.

Have to admit I haven't climbed Jacob's Ladder for years!!!699 steps and a total height of over 600 feet; - it's quite a climb! Was in town sorting out some stuff & doing a bit of shopping so photographed the ladder from the bottom - then photographs at the top on my way home. - Must get a few night shots of the ladder when it's lit up though.

Hi, thanks for the welcome. This truly is a world-wide group of enthusiasts.
What camera are you using? As I mentioned, Ive just bought the Nikon D5100, but the weather here is still horrible; (overcast, misty & foggy), so haven't gotten out with it much; want to get some landscape shots.

You dont say what camera you're using - or what brand of SDHC card you bought. My top choice of card is Sandisk; - either the Ultra or Extreme versions, . . never had any problems with them.

Hi and thanks for the feed-back. Just would like to know thoughts on the Sigma 18-250 Lens; - it had pretty good reviews in a recent photography mag, but found it a bit "soft" when trying a few landscape shots. . . . perhaps I should try taking the aperture down to around f11 at 100 ISO???

Hi, I'm Danny from St. Helena Island in the South Atlantic.
I've been in to photography for a number of years & from 2003 until a month ago, was shooting on a Konica Minolta A2 bridge camera. I have recently bought new kit consisting of Nikon D5100 body, Sigma 18 - 250 DC OS HSM lens extra battery & a (non-genuine) Battery Grip. Anyone else using the above combination of camera & lens?
Cheers,
Danny.
