In late August, I will have one day to spend at the GC. Where and at what times are recommended for photography?
And, while I'm asking, any recommendations for Sedona would be great.

Thank you

I think that sometimes a texture can add something to a photo. In this case the original background is beautiful unaltered. But it's still fun to play!

I agree with that and you are correct.

I'm not sure if you meant the question for me, but I'll take a shot at the answer. Assume you were taking photos for the dancer and you handed her what you showed us, do you think she would be pleased? Even if you pointed out her wonderful facial expressions? There is nothing wrong with the photography. Just keep in mind next time you photograph dance you should consider showing feet. You set the scene when you said she was dancing, we, the viewer expected to see dancing - what we saw was singing.
I'm not sure if you meant the question for me, but... (show quote)

You know, that's why I love this site. Pointing out the obvious- it never crossed my mind to get full length shots. I was very satisfied that I was able to get some clear shots with some good facial expressions.
If I change the title to "My daughter performing" or My daughter singing" would that alter your perception?

This past Sunday was my daughters rescheduled recital. Usually it is held inside a local high school auditorium, but because of the way things are now, it was held in the evening at a local park that has a small stage.
I'm pretty happy the way these turned out considering the poor lighting and no flash.

Um, why not both and experiment to see what you like better???

I thought of that.

I am going out tonight to try and get some shots. Do I take my 18-200 and get the wide view like I see in a lot of photos or do I take my 120-400 to zoom in?

I like the before and after. For sure, the HDR brings out the shadows and detail without being overdone

Here is my shot of the flyover taken in Bethesda, Maryland, where they flew over local hospitals, NIH, and Walter Reed. Didn't come out quite as sharp as I hoped. They were quite far off. I used 1/2000 for shutter speed which I thought would be sufficient.

I like it! We are always too critical of ourselves :)
