I waited for the right price to buy my RX100v! That is the best camera in my opinion, and will be used more often than my Canon D1i because it gives brighter pictures, no other lenses to carry, and has a great zoom! I spent too much time fooling around learning how to use my Canon dslr. In fact my other point and shoots were pretty good too till I owned the RX100v.

I think that's called progress, or so I've been told. It's been going on for quite a while I hear. I used to keep my cars for 8-10 years even though the car companies enticed me to trade up every year. Now, however, I can't seem to hold out for more than 3 years, I just don't have the same stamina I had in my younger days. And to think, I jumped at the RX100 last year when my wife's Canon S90 broke. If I had just held out for one more year.....hmmm, maybe I'll just have to drop the old RX100 overboard, accidentally like. Then again I could always pull out the old Mamiya TLR. It's just as good.....right?

This is about a Canon 28-105mm F/3.5-4.5 USM EF Lens. In a review of this lens I quote-- "Stopping down even 1/3 of a stop improves image sharpness noticeably-until the long end of the focal length range where 70mm focal length range are sharp and at f/8, images are even sharper right to the corners. At 70mm, corners are not as bad at f/8, but at 105mm, even 1.6x corners are quite soft. If you consider this a 28-70mm f/4.0-4.5 lens you will be happier." end of quote.
Certainly I understand that the lens is not so hot outside 70mm but I don't understand what is meant by "Stopping down even 1/3 of a stop--" -- what is he doing? I am still learning photography - Could someone clearify this jargon for me? Thanks!! P.S. I have an EOS Rebel T1i camera.

Ideas of briefness or brevity is whats important to me and I think you took my criticism too personally.

Hey Doc ..... everything you want to know about batteries and chargers can be found here ..... http://www.batteryuniversity.com

Oh- to have direct answers--there's the rub! I don't care to know all the details about a type of battery - my time is worth something to me. I am not in the business of manufacturing batteries - just knowing what to expect from them is all I need. The article is well & logically written but I don't like plowing through all that jargon/verbiage to get a simple understanding of my camera batteries. I'm sure most of us feel the same way!

How many of these babies do you own? Canon has a vast array of cameras and lenses. According to Canon the L lenses are white or beige for a reason. http://cpn.canon-europe.com/content/education/infobank/lenses/black_or_white_lenses.do

The white lenses are all large super-telephotos. There is a good reason for this.

Lenses contain glass elements. These expand with heat. This is not usually a problem with compact lenses − the amount of expansion is small. But large lenses contain large elements and here expansion can bring a lens close to the limits of its design tolerances. A white surface reflects sunlight, helping to keep the lens cooler.

This is rediculous, insane, etc. - there are too many lenses out there and the same with cameras! Same thing about cars, etc.!! Just make a few models for different purposes then when TRUE improvements come along THEN present the item to the public. But then humans are a strange breed huh? Laugh Out Loud! THEN 0N THE OTHER HAND I'd spell "laugh" LAFF.

I, was wondering who, has Hobo these days. I haven't seen any pictures on him.

Yes. He is walking along the railroad track -- he is from Hoboken, New Jersey. THAT IS WHY THEY CALL THEM HOBOS. Not all vagrants were from Hoboken but that is what started that name - the hard times during the GREAT DEPRESSION OF THE 30's. I am sure everybody knows this? Or have we forgotten?

I would try a fisheye lens with a macro lens attached. It only cost me less than $50 and you can have a lot of fun with it! It is a "Professional HD MKII DSLR 0.40X LENS Japan Optics." Comes in a nice bag along with an adapter (let the vendor know what camera you will use for your fisheye-macro lens). I bought it off Ebay. I hope this helps - signed Raymond François in Louisiana, USA. PS - don't spend more than $50 or 5O lbs. Ha!

Why has anyone thought of a filter? A polarizing filter (PL) is made especially for taking such shots with water reflections. I seem to think that was the original problem to be solved. Of course I am new at this kind of thing but I have just finished reading about different filters and thought the Polarizer would be a good thing to have on a lake in Tennessee!

Kev

I don't see 3D technology going anywhere except for medical doctors and that ilk such as engineering. 3D died in the 50's(?) and is now just cluttering cameras, etc. Been there done that already, Ha!!

Anytime you mention weight that turns me OFF! I can't stand those (these) big glass lenses when we are beyond this technology already. Let's wake up. Point and Shoot is the way to go, not DSLR.

Go for Sony HX100 - it is less expensive and you would spend a lot of $$$ to buy such a zoom lens. Read reviews by looking them up on Yaho, etc. before you spend your money. Take your time.

Yes, I have version 9.2.3 and the program shows on the right side of the photos over the "Info' button where it displays the most important camera settings as well as the name of the camera, etc. I am getting used to the new version of Iphoto as I have ever since Apple put out computers (1980's?). I don't like change at all because just as I master a program out pops a new and different version (like getting a new wife!) but eventually I get used to the new and IMPROVED versions. I have used only Apple computers all my life and - hell- I even invested but pulled out at a good profit but IF I had left my investment alone I would surely be a millionaire today__ I had 5k invested in the 90's.

David; I am sure that you are right for the time being but as sure as the sun will come up tomorrow morning there will come a change in lenses as photography EVOLVES. There recently (last decade or so) have been great changes in camera size and weight and this trend will continue as we hope for more practical cameras - these small cameras are really getting better and better thanks to progress. Just between you and I -- I think our EYES are the most perfect camera so far!
I think your two lenses are the perfect couple and you didn't have to pay a fortune for owning them either. I confess that I have a limited knowledge of linses and photography in general. I spend as much time reading about photography and manuals as I do running around taking photos.
