Can anyone recommend a less costly 100mm Macro lens for my Canon digital rebel XT 350D than the canon lens? Would like to keep the price around $100

you can buy a used manual focus macro lens with m42 lens mount, like Zeiss or Takumar, with a simple m 42 to EOS converter. even less expensive, try Vivitar. there are other marks. you loose auto focus but anyway for macro you don't need it. you also loose auto exposure-that depends on the way you work. for working outside you might find it difficult. with flash it is not a problem at all.

No, I mean $100.00. I am a retired senior citizen living on a social security check (small). Really would like to have a 100mm macro but simply cannot afford 500 to 1000 for a Canon lens.

$100 macro lens? Doesn't exist. You can however purchase extension tubes or macro filters for less than $40. There of course is a huge difference between a macro lens and extension tubes or macro filters, but that's the price you pay for saving money.

Here are some of the GOOD options

Extension tubes, though you get what you pay for

Close up lens COKIN, you will need an attachment ring and holder as well

AND whatever size ring for your filter thread

Look for an old manual focus lens they are out there just have to be patient you could also look at the Raynox products they work very well
http://www.raynox.co.jp/english/dcr/dcr250/indexdcr250eg.htm

You could use one of these on one of your existing lens

Tank you so much for your several items. I will check them more closely now.

Do you need "True Macro" or just "Close Up?" Insect heads would be considered true macro shooting, whereas pictures of flowers would be close up. There are many low cost options for shooting flowers and the like but real macro shooting requires more serious equipment. As JR mentioned, extension tubes will get you pretty close. Good Luck Gabe, and welcome
