Okay everybody, the rational solution is to work in your state for the passage of a law to legalize medical and recreational use of marijuana... or simply move to Colorado where we've already done that and have great photographic opportunities to sweeten the deal!!!

As much as I support medical marijuana, I have mixed feelings about total legalization (but I don't feel anyone should ever go to jail for using this and most other drugs). In Colorado they have pushed to develop ever-stronger strains of marijuana and create ever-stronger ways of using it. Not sure how smart that is and why it would be necessary.

I hope we can use this for pets who have chronic renal/hepatic disease. We have a tendency to use the NSAIDs in our pets to find comfort but at the same time doing even more damage

It certainly might be a good alternative.

The FDA still categorizes marijuana as a "Schedule 1" drug - no clinical use or risks far outweighing any potential clinical use. Long ago, though, they approved synthetic THC as "safe and effective" for medical use - at $1600 per month for 60 capsules of course. Does money talk? Obviously it speaks loud and clear.

FYI: we have found that CBD (cannabidiol) to some extent blocks some of the effects of THC, which is more responsible for the "stone" effect. Indica strains which have a higher relative amount of CBD tend to be less psychoactive and more effective for pain and inflammation. In states where medical marijuana is legal patients have the options of trying various strains to find the one that works best for them. They also can try different means of using the MMJ. Ingesting it takes longer to work, has a slightly different effect than smoking, and lasts longer. This makes it sometimes more useful at bedtime.

When I practiced in Maine I certified over 200 patients for MMJ. About 90% of them were seeking certification for chronic pain, and the average age was 55. I certified three patients over the age of 80. We have very few choices in the treatment of chronic pain - opiates have very obvious limitations, and the "non-steroidal anti-inflammatories" (ibuprofen, etc.) cannot be taken by those with declining kidney function and cause bleeding ulcers that kill some 13,000 Americans every year. My patients with chronic pain, who generally use their MMJ in the evenings and before bed, often tell me that it has been "life-saving".

Open carry makes those who aren't sure of your intentions very nervous. So it will always make you the center of attention. Better sometimes to carry concealed and then be able to pull it out and "point and shoot" when needed...... Oh - what were we talking about?

Similar for the Canon F4 24 to 105L. It pretty much remains on my camera most of the time.

Of course, that is a high-end "kit" lens that comes only with a high-end camera. The list price is $1,000.

The new Canon STM lenses are very good for "kit" lenses as well.

It's a nice photo, but I really have a problem with people thinking that their dog needs to participate in everything they do, including things which really might make the dog freak out, causing a dangerous situation to everyone involved. I have seen people mountain climbing with their dogs (hint: your dog does NOT have fingers to grab on to things with!) and at the yearly art festival here in Melbourne people insist on bringing their little tiny dogs on leashes in spite of repeated requests not to - it is always very hot and very crowded - the dogs risk injury by getting stepped on or kicked, and people risk injury by tripping over dogs or leashes. In these situations, IMO, the dog will be just as happy staying home and getting a Milkbone when you get home...

Everything shown was done by me or my boys. Including down hill sliding in a canoe until my youngest hit a tree and tried to patch it with car body filler. Don't forget downhill racing on cardboard, snow shoe races with plastic boots, winter swimming after braking the ice. Winter picnics and camping trips may not be sports, but eventually turned into football games, volley ball in the snow, golf, and softball. If you live in the North, the weather is just part of the game. Leon

Yeah - the article doesn't say much and lacks specifics.

There are certainly cancers that are due to "bad luck" or "bad genetics". You can't worry too much about those.

But do you want to control as much cancer as possible? There are simple rules:

1. Do not smoke.
2. Minimize consumption of grilled and preserved meats.
3. Eat lots of fruits, vegetables, and berries.
4. If you live in an area with lots of granite in the ground, have your basement and your well water tested for radon and mitigate it if needed.

And that's it! How important are these steps? Studies for decades have shown that smokers who regularly eat broccoli and carrots have about 40% less lung cancer than those who don't regularly eat them. (and no - taking Vitamin A supplements doesn't work!)

I don't know. These are merely adaptations of other sports - not "inventions" as such. Now curling - THERE is an odd winter sport!
