Thanks. These birds are pretty used to people walking and driving by, so it is amazing how close they let you walk by. The tricolored herons seem a little more skittish than some of the others.

What kind of Fruit?

We need photos of the leaves and the inner seed/seeds I think to differentiate this tree. It does look like the Bixa orellana, which is what the folks in the Amazon were using. Source of annatto coloring for foods. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bixa_orellana
