Lens Authority, as of two weeks ago, had no less than 15 of these lenses for sale, from $1200 to $1600. They are Lensrentals.com 's used product arm.

What is the point of posting this! Sells for 2296.00 new, Op states near new and includes a filter. Anyone that wants a used lens that has ben rented can go look for one! If anything should be a PM! WHY!!!!!!

I am thinking that perhaps shooting film, will slow me down,

Most of my photography of late has been landscapes and I am wanting to branch out more into B&W.

Thoughts?
Thanks
Jim

I have Nikon F3 and FM2n, both manual focus (good way to slow down) both can use non-DX MF or AF (in MF) lenses.

I had F100, and it is great except for the batteries don't last long and can be expensive!

I am a new participant in UH (but have been reading the forums for a while) and this is my initial post. Have been a hobby shooter for 20+ years, now retired and want to up my game, including going for better equipment. Am a Nikon guy (have had the D7000 since it first came out), so looking hard at the Nikon D810, and wonder about the best lens for landscapes to use with that body. Of course, people will have different opinions about this, but I'll appreciate your thoughts. (Comments about a medium telephoto appreciated as well.)

I have the d7000 and d800e, my opinion if you are buying d810, in order of preference:

I enjoy wildlife and landscape, so photography for me is a way to keep my old body and mind sharp and in shape. It is a way to wear myself out, yet keep me calm and at peace. It is a way to challenge my mind and body to find the beauty in the world we live in, and a way to understand how to share this world with all that walks, crawls, and flies in this world, as well as all that grows to make this place we call home beautiful.

Well said for me too.

So I use a Gitzo tripod and the best RRS ball head. I use the cable release for improved VR on the tripod. Keeping the ISO low I get shutter speeds of 1/125 and lower. Was thinking about using th VR on the lens for circumventing movement by the bird not the tripod.

Newer Nikon lenses allow VR to be turned on when used on a tripod and I do it all the time, especially since most of the time I have my tripod loose when shooting wildlife. I do try to remember to shut it off once I get between 500th and 1000th, just to save battery life. However, I have lots of shots down at high speed with VR on that are completely sharp. The 300 PF is generally just fine on a tripod with VR turned on.

That said, VR can also work against you if the shutter speed gets too low (like 1/2 second or slower), so you have to be careful there as well (although getting the bird to hold perfectly still for that long may be the greater challenge LOL).

So if I wanted to improve how much of the frame I can fill with a subject (say birds) and I had to choose one or the other. Money be equal, would I upgrade the camera body to higher resolution and then crop or upgrade the lens to increase the lens focal length?
I am wondering which choice would yield better results, details for large prints. Also is there a mathematical formula for this? IE; 16mp to 36mp is to 300mm to 450mm.
