I never fiddle much with white balance, even in post. Aside from portraiture, when should it be a primary issue?
Underwater photography demands constant white balance adjustment for changes in color as you descend or ascend.

I second the Golden Retriever

While I’m tempted to say the best dog is someone else’s I don’t think you can find a better companion than a Golden receiver. Had one that knew at least 50 commands.

ahhh, ilford 120 pan f - just love those panchromatic films!!!

Film..... What a concept. You can buy a nice enough film camera for less than a tank of gas at KEH or wherever. Experiment, go out on a limb. Three books that will help; The Camera, The Negative and The Print. Written by Ansel Adams. Perhaps you’ve heard of him.

I used a lab in Seattle when I was there but can not remember the name, it's been a while. They were excellent, there is nothing like looking at a square Fuji chrome. As much as I love them I mostly shoot B&W and process and print it in my home darkroom. I am getting ready to buy the contents of a local shop that specialized in film. The owner died and I'm going to sell off all the stuff that is still usable. His family stored everything without really knowing what they were doing and so wet chemicals and paper will probably get tossed, there is however a market for outdated film. Who knew. I'm not interested in keeping it as a business, I don't have the inclination to put the time into it that it needs...6 days a week 9 hours a day at my age isn't very appealing, but selling it off on e-bay and craigslist should hopefully be done by early summer. I know this site isn't about selling, but when I get an inventory I will beg permission from the moderator to allow people to contact me with any special requests. Probably won't even start until mid March.

The rental of a big lens will be a bust. They are heavy, akward and hard to attach to the camera when you suddenly need them. If you want to spend $$ do yourself a favor and buy a really good tripod. There are no signicant wildlife in the area. If walking is compromised try a walking stick/monopod combo. Be sure that the roads are open if you are going to Rocky Mountain NP. That is some really high country. Have fun.

Many third world citizens watch in horror as we burn food. Many in the developed world watch in horror as our governments make us burn food.

Aren't rural carriers self employed contract workers?

Here in rural N. Idaho they are contract carriers. Can’t defend that clerks behavior but lettercarriers in general are well paid laborer jobs. Winter trudging through deep snow, hot as hell in the summer and horrible management make it a stressful job. The fact you really can’t be fired because of the Union relieves a bit of the stress.

One of my retirement goals was to learn to play. To that end, I purchased a Les Paul Standard.
It is beautiful Fireburst color guitar displayed in my family room, but I haven't learned to play yet. Still on the bucket list-- maybe this year I will make some noise.

Take lessons from an instructor for at least a few months before depending on YouTube for instruction. Having somebody show you how to hold the guitar, how to hold your wrist, teach you some scales, help you train your ear and how to tune up and answer your questions. Following a structured program is efficient for learning and feedback is invaluable. If you aren’t going to use that Les Paul I am in a position where I can take donations at this time😁. Do be careful, guitars carry the same GAS virus that cameras carry.

Very sad to hear Ray Thomas, founding member of Moody Blues has died.

Moody Blues is one of my all time favorite groups, second perhaps only to the Beatles. As I was reading this, I just realized a coincidence. The first time I heard Moody Blues was at a co-workers home when I was in the Air Force stationed at Malmstrom AFB, MY back in 72. I remember hearing The Story in Your Eyes on his big Quad Channel stereo and thought "I have to get that album!" Been a fan ever since.
Very sad to hear Ray Thomas, founding member of Mo... (show quote)

I grew up in Great Falls and had a number of the Malmstron kids in schools I attended. Many cold winter nights were spent with friends and girlfriends listening to the Moody Blues as well as many other bands. A phrase from one song was printed on our wedding invitations. “Together we stand, hand in hand, on the threshold of a dream.” Saw them at The Gorge, a spectacular outdoor venue in central Washington state. A natural ampitheater overlooking the Columbia river with the sun setting behind the stage is an image I’ll never forget. Skipped a friends wedding to go, who knew the marriage would last. 20 years later and she’s still pissed if you bring it up, her husband not so much. The band was reputed to have insight into all things the meaning of life sort of stuff. In an interview with one of the members he was amazed that people thought this. He said they were just musicians who wrote love songs. RIP Ray Thomas. I suspect he does know the meaning of life.

[quote=Fotoartist]Two beers will get you higher than any joint. And you can shake a marijuanna high off if you want. You can't shake off the physical effects of an alcohol buzz. It has to wear off. I would like to see the research that shows how addictive pot is, BTW.[/quote

Either you have not smoked lately or you smoke so much your tolerance level is tremendous. Lots of online calculators to show the relationship between body mass, sex time imbibing and consumption. My vague recollection is you’d have to be an under 90# woman to be over .08 with 2 beers in an hour if memory serves.

My main question is- Do the field sobriety Tests given, also detect an illegal driver impaired on POT?

I am addicted to watching the TV show "Live PD".
I have seen bunches of field sobriety tests given.
I am now 78 years old and have a spanking clean Drivers License.
I religiously do not drink & drive.
However....
I have tried the field tests at home and neither me or my wife can pass them. Except for maybe the eye test with the pointing finger.

Charles, yes the field sobriety tests indicate that a person may be affected by alcohol or drugs. The field tests are just a part of the determination regarding intoxication/affected by observations. It’s like a tripod. The three legs of the DUI tripod are field test, blood/breath and driving. Any of the legs missing the tripod falls over. So in your case the failure would be lack of blood/breath evidence and, hopefully, the driving. Law enforcement would not expect you to have the same balance as a 20 year old gymnast. I would recommend if asked to do the road side sobriety tests to not say “officer I can’t even do these when I’m sober.”

I don't smoke pot. But I can't help but wonder if they are to release all the folks in jail for pot convictions. It only seems fair. Do companies still fire you for dirty pee tests. Will states ban super pot. How many joints can you smoke before considered impaired. Is hash considered pot. Will states import pot from abroad. The federal government says pot still illegal. How do you pay taxes on a illegal business. What about folks that transport pot from legal states to illegal states. Will this lead to more people arrested.
Just some thoughts ! 😎

I can answer a couple. If they released everybody held in jail for simple possession you probably couldn't field a soccer team. In many if not most states possession under a certain amount is a civil infraction, just like a speeding ticket. Ever been in jail for speeding?
The employer sets the standards for the workplace as does labor and industries and in a sense, the insurance companies because they will not insure some businesses unless they do drug testing and have a zero tolerance policy.
Potency is not an issue, the packaging usually indicates the strength. It is all super pot compared to the 60's and 70's.
Paying taxes is not excused if the gain is unlawful, just ask Al Capone, he was imprisoned for tax evasion not killing people.
If it is illegal in your state it matters not where you bought it. More people might get tickets.

That's not true. I live in Colorado and they developed a machine (similar to a breathalyzer) that you blow into, tells them immediately if you are high. The taxes collected are astounding and some of it has been put to good use.

What is this machine. Do you know who produces it? Any links? I was unaware of this device and hate to be caught flat footed in this area. Thanks

Generally speaking, i.e, I am not a lawyer, anything that is within a state's border that does not affect trans border traffic is within the state's jurisdiction. The moment it is moved across the state's border, it falls under federal jurisdiction. An example, restraining someone against their will is not necessarily kidnapping. The moment that the two of you step over that state line, it graduates to the federal crime of kidnapping, getting the FBI involved. And the same was decided regarding POT laws. However, the grey areas are being looked at and this is were it does get dicey. Drugs are under FDA aegis because the Public Welfare is a countrywide responsibility on the Fed. Now, is POT a drug or not? If it is not a drug, then it is up to the states to legislate. But how do you keep POT from crossing the state lines? Stay tuned and keep your hookahs filled.

The term to study for the pop quiz is "Recipricocity".

Interstate commerce is only periferaly involved. Federal law trumps state law always. DEA has jurisdiction over the controlled and scheduled drugs. FDA is concerned with purity, efficacy and potential harm to consumers. Also, there are many crimes that affect several states simultaneously that don’t result in Federal jurisdictions such as conspiracy, leading organized crime, eluding the police in a car chase that continues into another state, custodial interference....you get the picture. There are Federal crimes that mirror State crimes in many instances but that does not confer exclusive Federal jurisdiction. All crimes committed on Indian reservations, national parks, military installations have exclusive Federal jurisdiction.
