Of course this is acceptable. I know of no rules that require specified steps in order to get a good shot.

Thanks Im looking forward to getting out again and experimenting with f/stops and distance.

I have no problem with feeding birds in order to photograph them. Lots of people feed the birds—some photograph them, some don't.

đź‘Ť Thanks for the follow up.

Nearly all my shots are at f/6.3. Of course distance from subject affects DOF and I don't know how close you were to the bird but I've never been able to get close enough to produce a shallow DOF. Other than that the shots are nice and someone even mentioned he likes the blurred tail feathers.

I was very close. 5 days before this shot I found this pair of Robins on the river near my home and tossed out a few mealworms which after a bit of suspicion they came down. Over the next few days they got tamer- by the 5th day they were literally eating out of my hand. Not sure if this is acceptable on UHH ?

Cute little fellow, well-captured. I like that the tail is out of focus on #1 & #3, it shifts emphasis to the bird's better end.

Thanks!

For these shots especially #1 & #3 what was your aperture setting? Your DOF is too shallow for the entire bird to be in focus and it appears to be a small bird.

Thanks for Looking and your comments. I couldn't understand why the Robins tail was blurred. My Aperture setting was F6
