There were numerous 'free' updates during 2018 to the ON1 software. This newest ON1 is a massively upgraded piece of software that is well worth the cost in my opinion. Consider ON1 Plus membership and the upgrade is also Free.

The 2019 version available tomorrow, Oct 4th, is actually a very complete stand alone program which not only includes all the expected HDR components, but now also includes layers and masking capabilities. I've used it since it came out and many of my images are run through it for effects. Not at all referring to typical HDR 'grunge' effects, but primarily expanding perceived dynamic range.

Looks like I had to wait for the 'Direct Confirmation' from ON1 which now does indicate the upgrade is 'Free' to Plus members. Unfortunately, there was no indication of this on the website, but glad your observation turned to be accurate. 👍

If you read the link, 2019 has an upgrade cost which amount depends on whether you have the basic ON1 or the ON1 Plus....
