With the way things are going, that's not likely to happen for a real real long time. I'm talking millennia here...

You need a ziplock bag to put your camera in when you bring it in from the cold... just a caution.

For me it was -52° in Yellowknife NWT in Canada.

the media crows “climate change!” When it’s 20 degrees above average in August, the media screams “global warming!

You simply have to look at the current weather around the world during the last year to see that there is a bit of a change. Climate change may be happening.

Converting vehicles entirely to electric or hydrogen would not end the need for petroleum products. Oil is used for lubricants, plastics, textiles, medicines, and lots of other stuff. The USA is a producer of oil so perhaps we wouldn't need to import as much, but it wouldn't stop the pumping. The only way to do that is to develop other sources for the other uses. Research needed.

I have no idea of what the future brings, but even f****l f**l lubricants may go the way of the dodo... There are many synthetic lubricants on the market and the number is growing and some are better. The reason f****l f**l lubricants are in common use is their cost. This will likely change in future.

the -55C was without wind chill... it was dead calm.

Due to climate change, this may only be the beginning.

-55C in Cambridge Bay about 50 years ago and dead calm... is the coldest I've experienced... lots of -40C stuff. It doesn't matter if C or F at -40. They converge. It was -35C on our wedding day. Recent weather could be an indication of what is to follow, with climate change. The extremes could get a lot worse. The summation of the temperatures below zero is called the 'freezing index' and is a measure used for designing for cold weather. The freezing index for Winnipeg is/was greater than for Moscow.

I suspect f****l f**ls will do the way of the dinosaur. EVs will likely replace them and for these to be effective, they have to work using renewable electric power. Europe has already put a time limit on internal combustion engines, recently moving the end date from 2040 to 2035. There will be improvements in batteries, making them last longer and be less prone to fire.

I hope you are right, but I'm not so confident. A recent article, paints a different story.

You have to go out into the country. When I was a child, the northern lights were common, but not as intense as they are now. With the increased intensity, they are no longer visible in the city. Another thing missing, and likely from ecological reasons, are fireflies. We used to catch them as kids; I haven't seen one for decades.

So if you are thinking of looking into solar, do your due diligence first so you have a true comparison on hand before signing anything.

and also look into the increasing cost for conventional power. The large increase that prompted him to look into solar, may just be the tip of the iceberg. With climate change, I suspect power costs are going to increase substantially in the future.
