It warmed up a small bit yesterday so I took a ride and are the results.

Amazing pictures. What did the lens cost new? Is it a mirror lens (looks like one.)
It was a special order lens so I think it would take a boat load of cash even in the 70's.

Nice but nicer in color
I loaded all the tri-x film with 2 Kodak film loaders myself and processed all the rolls in D76. That kept the costs down when I'm processing 13 rolls from a weekend of shooting. I used a Nikon FTN with a F36 motor drive and a F2 with a MD-1 and MB-1. So when shooting with those cameras B&W was the only consideration to control costs.
Here are USAC sprint cars on different track that I went to. I went to New Bremen when it was asphalt and dirt in 1979. In the late 70's the promoter at Winchester would let me shoot from outside turn 4 and I got Opperman at Eldora. Then there is Sheldon Kinser and Chuck Gurney at Terra Haute, and there is Pancho at New Bremen, Findlay and Winchester. Finally the awesome Nikkor 2000mm F:11 lens I got in the first turn at Indy. The lens is valued between $32,000 and $26,000,Its 2'-0" long and weighs in at 30lb and comes with is own cradle. Imagine what a tripod for this lens would cost.
Here is a little Bufflehead taking off. I was sitting in the car with my 600mm F:4g VR on a monopod and I didn't have a lot of room on my left. So I had to stop the shooting.
I got this yesterday morning.
I was standing on their platform and panning a immature eagle when a Red-tail Hawk game in and started chasing the eagle. I think the hawk might have a nest nearby and flew up to chase the eagle away. I shot this with my D3s and 600mm F:4gVR.

Good shots! I didn't bald eagles nested on the ground.
There not nests. they are muskrat mounds. Eagles use them for nest material.
I was going to post this sequence on facebook and when I clicked post on facebook it immediately closed down and disabled my account. I didn't know a bald eagle sequence would have that kind of effect on facebook. After dealing with facebook about this I've come to realize that facebook is really run by Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.
Here are a few owl shots I was able to get in the past.

I got these back in 1999 shooting a F5 and manual focus 600mm F:4. In 2010 I scanned everything and for the good stuff I used my Super Coolscan 5000 which will let me save as a .nef
I got this sequence the other day on the Causeway at Magee Marsh. All were taken from the drivers seat.
