I am a long time photographer, I have been asked to *donate* my images for free. I will get free exposure it they use my images. Nope, doesn't cover the cost and time I have spent mastering my art

Today, everyone is a photographer if they have a phone. I still don't give my work for free.

This is a cute theme song, there is some foul language but it says it perfectly.
Enjoy!!

I do. I’m an amateur photographer; if someone likes one of my photos and wants to put it in a book, what do I have to lose? I don’t kid myself that I’d be able to sell my images for real money. I am affiliated with two animal rescues, and I routinely takes pictures of their dogs for their website. I also take photos for their calendar fundraiser and at their events. A friend who is a professional photographer donates her time, equipment, and expertise to take “pictures with Santa” at the Christmas party for one of the rescues. I can’t do this because I don’t have the equipment to print out and hand out photos in real time. What’s the point of mastering your art, if you are unwilling to share it? Everyone on this site is more than willing to share their expertise for free. What’s the difference?

That’s correct. According to Canon it does not slow down the camera if using JPG. Thanks.

This link explains DLO very well.

I believe If you are going to apply DLO to a Raw file you do it in DPP and don’t have to set the camera for DLO. If you are shooting jpegs then selecting DLO in camera applies the setting chosen by using the camera Processor. This is what makes it so slow

According to Canon, (see my previous post), DLO does not slow down shooting in JPG. But shooting RAW, or JPG + RAW, will slow down the camera.

I haven't used the feature from within DPP 4 for quite a while, but it can improve micro contrast and fine detail. I currently process all my raw files in DxO PhotoLab.

The amount of improvement with digital lens optimization depends on the lens. The improvement to fine detail is real but is mostly visible when zooming in. As a result It may be most useful for cropped images. The files are bigger and only DPP recognizes this feature. Other raw processors ignore it which is unfortunate because it does provide a noticeable improvement depending on the image and the lens that was used.

Thanks. Confirms what Paul and others speculated about this feature needing DPP for PP.

Gmail is stored in the cloud, but when you open it in your iPad, it downloads a copy to your iPad. That’s why you can read old email when not connected to the internet.

Yes it is, but I have 4 outlook.com email accounts. Outlook caps you at 15GB, so even if I had maxed out on all accounts, which I have not, the Mail app should have used no more than 60GB.

My iPad tells me that I have used 181 GB out of 256 GB of available storage.

It also tells me that my mail app alone uses 193GB of storage.

How does 1 app use more storage space than all apps combined?

Could it be iMath?

Kinda makes it redundant if not shooting JPG, since you can make the same corrections for RAW files in most PP software. I have not tried it, so I don’t know if there is any advantage to enabling DLO using DPP and then moving to LR.

I have definitely found it slows down the 5D4. I was shooting a wrestling match one night and I noticed there was a very noticeable lag between shots if I attempted a 2-3 shot burst during fast action. It was so noticeable compared to the camera’s usual response (on HS continuous you need to take care to fire only one shot), that I immediately started examining menu settings. I disabled it, and the camera went back to its usual fast burst.

Btw, I’m not a “spray and pray” shooter, preferring to anticipate action, but when people are literally flying through the air, sometimes a 2-3 shot burst is appropriate.

This is from the Canon website. If I’m reading it correctly, it says that there is “no effect on operational speed”, but only if shooting JPG. So RAW shooters would only benefit if they post processed in DPP or with DPP plus their regular choice of editor.
