To elaborate on a previous suggestion: Taking pictures of church groups from10 to 35 people), I've had very good luck in catching all eyes open. I tell the group that in a few minutes I'm going to ask everyone to close their eyes, then open their eyes on the count of "3". I then ask everyone to close their eyes, and immediately count 1, 2, Open! Try it.

What are some difficult truths about aging?
1, You can be anything you want to be. No, no you can’t. There are tests you won’t score high enough on that will preclude you from being accepted into whatever program you desire. All this despite having the intelligence and skill needed to excel at whatever the profession may be. Even if you have the right credentials and experience, if they are not hiring for what you want to do…well…you may be out of luck. There are miles of reasons why you can’t be whatever you want to be.

a. But guess what, you can be the best at the opportunities life presents to you.

2. Hard work is rewarded. No, not always. Sometimes the power of the universe conspires against hard working individuals and unfairly rewards our lazy, short cut seeking, less intelligent friends, co-workers, and acquaitances.

a. But if you knuckle down, don’t let the unfairness of the world ruin your attitude, show up everyday, and do your best, you definitely increase the odds of having a fulfilling life.

3. Money and wealth are your greatest asset. No, no they are not. They are important and provide security and freedom.

a. But your health is your greatest asset. If you have terminal cancer or some other horrifying condition, all the money in the world does not matter. In fact, if you get type 2 diabetes or heart disease, what you can do daily is radically impacted. So invest in your health daily.

4. That others care about your house, your clothes, your toys, and you in general. No, no they do not. We all think others are concerned with what we have or don’t have. They’re not. In fact the people we think are thinking about us, usually are not thinking about us at all. The world doesn’t really care about you at all.

a. But, if you are lucky, you have a few people who do truly care about you. It’s usually a very small number of people. They are the people that truly matter in your life and they probably could care less about all your toys.

5. That we will all live forever. No, no you won’t. Sure, no one ever comes out and blatantly tells you that you will live forever. But every message we get on TV, social media, or culture in general seems to want us to believe we are immortal. Worse yet, our own minds seem to lead us around as if we are going to see the next two centuries.
a. But, you are going to die. Everyone you know is going to die. That should not scare us. It should free us. Free us to be present in every moment because this moment is all we really have. The past is gone. The future is not guaranteed. We have today. Embrace it and allow it to grow the love you have inside you. Then share that love.

I'm not a botanist but my mothere used to plant flowers arounf our home when I was growing up. She frequently had flowers that looked like the black one in your photo. I think she called them morning glories. I do not recall ever seeing one that was black, but she grew them in a wide variety of colors, some had mixed colors in each bloom.

Thank you for your comment. Almost all previous comments think the flower is a petunia. What ever it is, to me it is unique and a first for me and several people at church.

If it doesn’t rot first, the seeds in a tomato left on your kitchen counter long enough will sprout and some will push through the skin.

Thank you for the information. My delightful wife of 58 years has always set tomatoes out on the kitchen counter and still, this is a first for us.

Looks like a Petunia to me. A really dark red, but looks black. Haven't grown Petunias for 10 years or more and I have forgotten the names of the varieties.

The tomato has started to decompose, changing the pH of the fluid within and one of the seeds has germinated. I have seen that happen several times, usually on the compost pile.

Thank you for confirming the flower is a petunia. I appreciate your inside (no pun intended) chemical explanation; college chemistry is so far back in history, I've never used that bit of learning. Now I have to deal with the fact my "Forgetter" has gotten much better than my "Rememberer."

There is a black petunia.
As for the tomato, that is weird. But maybe one of the seeds inside started to germinate.

Thank you for further supporting that the flower is a petunia. I agree with your germinating idea.

Petunia violacea?

Thank you. Lady at church mentioned it probably was in the Petunia family.

I''m in the latter part of my 80's, blessed to travel many places most others have not visited. A tomato growing it's own tomato plant and a black flower were two things I'd never experienced before. Also, I would appreciate knowing the name of the flower; and it ain't Henry. The last tomato picture was taken one week after the first two; 3 mornings later it had burst and my wife threw it in the trash and it sorta exploded.

Maybe you've run into this already, Amazon has a scammer trying to use email to get you to give them you data. IMHO they are a bit worried about directly copying Amazon's address; all that shows on your email list is exactly like Amazon's except the scammer's use a lower case a insted of the capital A. Some of the older folks at church also suggest carefully checking the full email address and if it is different from the real thing, bail out immediately.

My Amazon rebate credit card is my standard for paying for Amazon orders. I was surprised to get a bill from Amex last night for $202. Looking online this morning, I saw they were all charges from Amazon. I was wondering why it was taking so long for Amazon charges to come through on their card. Somehow, the payment got switched over to American Express. I had noticed a couple of weeks ago that Amex was the default payment method, so I switched it back.

Make sure the payment method you want is the one being used.

It is said that if you cross the Northern border from Saskatchewan on the way to Matamoros, MX, when you cross the Texas border at the panhandle you would be only halfway there.

It is also said, if you could pick up Texas and using Texarkana as the tilting pivot point, laying the State flat, El Paso would be in the Atlantic Ocean; tilting West using El Paso as the pivot point, Texarkana would be in the Pacific Ocean.
