Hi, I live in the UK and have been to the US many times but never to Texas.
We are thinking of visiting in Sept/Oct this year and would welcome any advice relating to places to go and things to photograph. We will probably fly in to Houston and out from DFW and have 2 weeks or so to travel.
I also understand that West Texas is very photogenic and would welcome advice on places to visit and stay.
Thank you

Well, I think any visit of an outsider to Texas should definitely include San Antonio and the Alamo, since it is such an important part of Texas's history. And the Riverwalk there is a great place to visit. I've been to San Antonio 3 times, here are some photos: https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/collections/72157626267298096/

I've not explored western Texas much, but did visit the CAF Airpower Museum in Midland, Texas. It has a nice display of old airplanes. https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157632953912284/

If you like air museums, the Cavanaugh Flight Museum in Addison, Texas (outside Dallas) is worth a visit. https://www.flickr.com/photos/8712554@N02/sets/72157632949358897/

If you are classical music fans, two of the best concert halls are found in Dallas (the Meyerson) and Fort Worth (the Bass).

Texas abounds with excellent venues, and I'll let others fill more of those in for you.

I live in Dallas and would enjoy meeting you. Maybe we could arrange a lunch?

That's a pretty definitive negative command. Just what is it based on? Texans are very friendly folk. They accepted me 42 years ago and I was a died-in-the-wool Northerner.

If you like funky, try Austin. Good restaurants including great BBQ

Go to New Mexico instead. Texan politics are just plain scary.

In my life I have lived in Ohio, Boston, Jamaica, The Netherlands, Germany and Texas. And I have to say the most foreign place I've ever been to is Texas. Yes there are many wonderful people in Texas but I learned to never turn your back on them.

Warning, Texas is almost 20% bigger than France and 25 million people, mostly in Central and East Texas, so large areas in the west have low population density. Something someone from the UK really doesn't see much.

I once heard Texas described as "Miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles!"
I have visited a few times. My son and brother were both stationed there with the Army. I know people who now live in Texas and I know people from Texas. It is a large, varied place with everything from desert to prairie to Eastern Woodlands and some of the best food in the world. Especially the blended Tex-Mex (Texas-Mexican) and BBQ.

Try the Big Bend area, the national park, Balmoreh swimming pool, fort Davis, terlingua, McDonal observatory are all in the area. Call now and you may be able to reserve one of the rock cottages inside BB National Park,
