I was thinking about that very thing earlier today. The tree is a large oak with the hole in the "stump" of where a limb used to be. It is, conservatively, 30 feet up. I might be able to get a decent shot from my rooftop in the early morning when the light is coming straight across. The longest glass I have is a 300mm. We'll have to see if that does the trick...

Beautiful! The capture is elegant and the eyes in this image are what I would call "haunting". Great job!

Heather Anne...thanks for viewing these images. I did a "re-work" of the first and thought I'd include it in the post, also for comments.

Hi Coot...I saw your post a couple of days ago and had to get back to you. I actually caught a nesting pair in a Red Oak tree in my front yard less than an hour ago. It's said to be the most rare of the seven species of woodpeckers native to North Carolina. Yours is by far the better shot (my long lens is just 300mm and not super fast glass) but I did have the good fortune to catch male and female together "working" on the nest. Hope you like these two frames!

VERY INTERESTING...Blurryeyed! And to think that the web page for the U.S. Secret Service lists the penalty for creating "fake money" as..."a fine or imprisonment for up to 15 years, or both".

here's the link... http://www.secretservice.gov/money_law.shtml

Maybe we need to broaden our definition of "counterfeiting"!

I can see why they chose you to do the shoot...wonderful images. I particularly like #2 in the first set. I couldn't help noticing the identical markings on these "twins"...and what a great capture...even their ears are pointed at the same angle forward as if at "attention". Super job and what an honor!! Horses are some of my favorite people!

Bultaco...here is a link to the Duracell page that shows info for the replacement battery you need. There is no specific info on mah but specs. indicate they will "meet or exceed" manufacturer specs and are "completely OEM compatible" Duracell is a trusted name brand and this battery has a one year warranty...worth a look-see!

Thanks Skeezit...I have had comments about it and did an exposure adjustment in Ps just to see the result. I'll post it here as well...

Thanks Bram and Linda...Linda, tentatively, the print will go in our bedroom so in that respect would agree with you on #2. However, I do really enjoy the sense of drama created by the high contrast of the first.

I am thinking of printing one of two images in a larger size than usual for me (20 X 30) and would like comments/critique on these two please. Thanks again, too, for all the help I have received from UHH'ers on these and other questions in the past!

I agree...very well done! This is what I imagine HDR photographs should achieve (personal opinion). Could you provide metadata?
