On a recent local photo website a contributor posted some very nice photos. Got excellent comments about them. One person asked what camera he was using an his lens. His answer, my cell phone. He processes his pictures quite well.

A good photographer uses the tools he/she has available to them.

I have some of the same equipment you have, I also have a small bridge camera that helps to fill in the blanks when I need it to.

Pismo is one of my favorite places along the Central California coast. There’s a ‘downtown’ area that’s about 2 blocks long and about 2 blocks wide usually inhabited by wondering tourists and some locals. There’s a pier to walk to, actually connected to the west end of ‘downtown’, about a mile or so north of ‘downtown’ but still in the residential area, is a little island, maybe an acre in size maybe 50 yards off shore where literally thousands of pelicans gather for tea and crumpets (or whatever pelicans gather for) and can provide interesting photo-ops, especially with a longer lens. A very small town about 10 miles north of Pismo is Avilla Beach (exit off the 101 at the sign and head west). If you really want to get more of a feeling of a sea coast town, complete with fishing fleet, go west on Highway 1 from San Louis Obispo to Morrow Bay and wander to find interesting things to photograph. About 30 miles north of Morrow Bay is Cambria, a few miles north of Cambria is the world famous Hearst Castle which you can get glimpses of from the road, and about 5 miles north of that is the elephant seal mating area, that’s a very ‘g’ rated attraction, in case you were wondering, but you can get to within about 10 yards away, safely, because the seals are on the beach and you’re above on a little cliff the seals can’t climb. Anywhere you go, you will have tons of interesting things to photograph, parking is rarely an issue, traffic is almost non-existent and the people are friendly. Have a great time.

This is a pretty accurate assessment of Pismo and the adjoining area. The only thing he left out were the Sand Dunes and the cliffs of Montana Del Oro, one of the nicer areas alone the coast also. You can find more than enough to see in an afternoon.

Apparently Canon make it difficult to get Shutter Counts on cameras after the 70D. Does anybody have a good link or information to one that works for the Canon 80D?

I am using a Mac for my computer.

I own a 7D2 and unless you really want to change brands I would go to the 5D MK4. FF so your 100-400 would work well with that. You might also think about getting a 1.4 II teleconverter for it since you are looking to go to Africa. That lens will be your go to shooting system there.

Denny,

Looks good, how much do you want for it?

Would you take PayPal? Will it include shipping?

I live in San Diego.

Found thank you and no longer looking

WTB: Canon EF 100-400 L ver 1 (push/pull)

Willing to pay in the $600 range, more or less depending on condition.

Original box would be nice, but not required

Tripod mount, lens caps, lens hood, and pouch/case are important. Case does not have to be original Canon, can be any brand as long as it fits and protects.

Received my e-mail on the 10th about the new Luminar AI being available to download. Everything has worked well so far.

Getting used to the new layout of things but have noticed a increase in speed.

I am using this on a Mac running Mojave.
