When I discovered that my Nikon D750 has a 29-minute video recording limit per clip, I decided to explore my options. My Panasonic AG-AC160 can record up 10-contiuous hours of 1080p video if I have the camera connected to AC power and I am recording in relay mode covering two 64GB SDHC cards. The Nikon can get me longer continuous recording if I use an external HDMI-connected device such as an ATOMOS Ninja or other similar device using specified SDHC/XC cards or SSDs. I'm still researching which one will suit my needs and will share my experience after I've made my purchase and experienced the results.

Great observations and share! I couldn't agree more.
The Mac OS is based on hierarchical filing system, documents/files within folders and folders within folders. The fewer things the Finder needs to look at and manage at any time. because files and folders are organized as you would your home office, desk and filing cabinet and drawers, the more resources your processor and memory have to do whatever you ask the computer to do.
I hope this, along with Kuzano's explanation, help.

It claims to "clean" the Mac's OS and everything installed. It can play havoc with the Mac's directory, preferences, and the Finder, initiating background activities that can dramatically slow the Mac down. BTW, when you upgrade to Yosemite, make sure to uncheck the FileVault feature. That's another feature that slows your Mac way down and keeps the user or Genius Bar from repairing disc and disc permissions using Disk Utility. As one of my colleagues notes, the only reason you might need FileVault enabled is if you're creating something you're afraid the North Korean government might discover.

I'd even recommend uninstalling/removing it so it's not doing anything in the background that might slow your Mac down.

I am an Apple Creative and based on my experience working with my friends at the Genius Bar, MacKeeper is a BAD idea! Whenever we see it, we encourage our customers to remove it.

You're husband is a good candidate for Apple's One-to-One training program, available to those who purchase a Mac at an Apple Store for $99, offering one year of training, as many 30- and 60-minute sessions as he can book, one at a time, for a year!
The Apple Creative who works with him, can help transfer the contents of the drive in its own case during a session. Apple cannot, however, extract the PC drive from the PC or install it in a new case.
Cases are inexpensive and easy to setup, especially from macsales.com. One-to-one includes data transfer from a "working PC with one account." Unfortunately, this wouldn't work for your husband's PC.
However, as an Apple Creative, among the joys of my job are helping PC users discover the magic and getting them up to speed with work on their old content on their new Mac. I advise getting a USB3 case for 2.5" drive, insofar as all our Macs have USB3 and it's nice to see the data transfer happen quickly.
Just my 2¢ as a working professional shooter and trainer.

As an actor, I'm able to do my own head shots with D700 in my studio. I can also capture a subject's image and show them on-the-spot, as well as adjust all my camera settings to get optimal exposure. Last Summer, I did a family photo in which I was a member. Had the D700 on a tripod, CamRanger on the tripod with the D700 about 30-yds away and got what we needed using my iPhone until I could report that everyone was looking at the camera and no one blinked! I'm thrilled with it and don't find it kludgy at all.

Thank you. I shared with my wife, the math teacher . . . and I'm confident she'll pass them on with a result greater than one in ten.

I have a 2012 15" 2.7GHz MacBook Pro, Retina display for sale. It has 16GB RAM, 768 fast SSD and AppleCare coverage until August 2015.
I bought a newer model and would love to find a home for this for $1,900. It comes with all stock Mac software, looks pristine and performs flawlessly.
Currently running Mavericks, but will upgrade to Yosemite if the buyer requests it. Runs photo and editing software without a hitch!

A great resource for the best information on how to manage your image library was developed by American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) funded by the Library of Congress, in recognition of the fact that while our old analog content (film and enlargements) might degrade/deteriorate gracefully over time, our digital images will degrade absolutely as storage media fails. The site for your consideration is:
http://dpbestflow.org
I highly recommend it as a fabulous source to enhance our understanding and appreciation of the value of our work and how to retain that value over time.
