Canon 1Dx3 with 70-200 f/2.8 IS III. Works for what I shoot most of the time. Why does it have to be something we own or owned, if we are picking one... I have never understood the need to have 6 different bodies...

I took some shots at 12-12:30 am but didn’t notice anything really. Information my wife looked up said it was not really visible to the naked eye, but could possibly be picked up by a digital camera if the contrast was increased in post... At maximum only 35 percent of the moon would be in any shadow... I was unimpressed but it was cooler temps sitting out at that time...😳😎

Buy some OpTech snaps that attach to the camera lugs. Put one on you strap and one on a lug and you will have a quick disconnect strap for about $7 cost. I got some from B&H.

If you use a RRS plate the newer ones have a hole for a military grade quick release. I use those on my straps and the QR piece costs about $12-15 from RRS. Use both of these and you have double security. That’s what I do for my 1Dx2.

I purchased a camera strap that is more secure than the one that comes with cameras. The strap is secured to the camera with a screw that goes into the tripod port. The down side is that it is a pain to put the camera on a tripod now because you have to remove the screw. Anyone know of an easier connection?

Thanks

I will not be dragging 25 pounds of any of the 3 out and won’t be stuck on The Trail...😎

As was eruditely observed elsewhere 25 lb of lead or 25 lb of feathers is all still the same 25 lb. Seems to me that a sack of feathers would be more useful, frinstintz if you’re stuck out on “The Trail” overnight. A quick check of Ammozon shows a choice of hunter orange or dessert kammo.

25 pounds of lead shot takes up a lot less space...

You seem obsessed with big and heavy. The reality is that many tripod users are in fact working to stabilize bigger and heavier gear. Fact of life...

And of course there are the words that are spelled differently but sound the same...made, maid... And have different meanings too...

Don't know I am far from fluent in Japanese (any Japanese speakers?) .... but English is a harder language for foreigners to learn because of so many variations of long and short vowels. Spanish for example is simpler because the vowels are pronounced one way for all words (with possible exception of foreign lingo adopted into the language).

As an aside I was thinking that Nikon is the only camera company with 3 different versions of pronunciation.

Canon (although some misspell it Cannon)
Pentax/ Ricoh
Olympus
Fuji/ Fujinon/ Fujifilm
Sony (Sony the one and only would not jingle if it was "Sunny")
Phase One
Panasonic/ Lumix (does anyone say "Lummicks" or "Loomix")

Some defunct brands:
Contax
Yashica
Praktica
Exackta
Mamiya (I used to call them "Mama Mia")
Bronica

The problem with your analysis is that this is a proper name and doesn't need to follow standard (as if there really were such a thing with names) procedures as you are saying. No matter how the letters fall together the word, Nikon is generally pronounced with an I sound in America and the other two ways, Kneekon or Knickon in SOME other countries.

The reality of it all is that it doesn't make much difference does it? All seem to be correct depending upon which country you are in at the time.

Not all camera store workers are Pros, shoot what you may be interested in shooting or are unbiased in what they like or recommend. You have been warned...

Christopher, here is just one of dozens of websites that offer relatively unbiased advice for you: https://www.birdwatchingdaily.com/photography/how-to-photograph-birds/best-cameras-bird-photography/

However, you might like to go to your fav camera store and speak with a "pro" who will provide accurate info and allow you to try out a few options for yourself. What happens often is we all tell you to buy what we already own. It is human nature, but there can be a bit of a bias or even sometimes misleading. In the end, every major camera company has several options that are up to "birding."

Good luck & enjoy the "hunt!"

Cheers!

D500 or D850 would be what I would think about with the 200-500 lens...

Nikon D500 or D850 with the Nikkor 200-500mm should make you happy. I own these three items.

I also own a Z6 and Z50 and never think about either for birding. They don't seem to react as fast as the DSLRs.

I use basically this RRS setup with plate and can swap in 10 seconds or less... I think the dovetail plate is about $50 from RRS. Give them a call and they can help you understand fully.

Steve Perry has a YouTube video: Swapping Heads the Fast Way. It shows a clamp and plate from Really Right Stuff. Clamp: RRS B-2-LR-II Lever-Release Clamp (60mm)

He suggests possibly using blue Lok-Tite on the screws for security. The video is about 5 minutes.

I was wondering when someone was going to mention mirrorless as an option. I would consider it if I was the OP. Lens transition would be less costly initially. Outstanding lenses are becoming more available for the mirrorless platform too. The 5D4 is also coming up on 4 years old, but is still a very good camera.

Don't waste your money on a 5D mk IV. Don't get me wrong, I own one and use it all the time. You have several lenses already but only 1 will work on the 5D mk IV. With an adapter, all your lenses will work on an EOS R5. I know, I know, the R5 hasn't officially been announced or relesed by Canon, but it will, soon. If you want the newest technology Canon has to offer, the 5D mk IV will not deliver, but the R5 or even R6 will. You just need to wait a little longer. It's not like your 7D is no longer working. Wait for the R5, or R6, get the adapter and just use all the lenses you already have.
Another option, if you think hard about it and realize you don't really need a full frame, is the 90D. I have a 90D and I probably use it as often or more often than my 5D mk IV. It's a nice camera and it's loaded with Canon's latest technology and all your lenses will work on it, and, it costs a lot less than the full frame cameras and it's a great camera for wildlife.
