Nice images. This bird has darker head plumage to the usual Bald-Eagle images, is it a juvenile or different species ? Pardon me if it's a dumb question, I'm from out of town..

Hi Dixiegirl. According to the good book the wingspan is 7.5-8.5ft. Quite a sizeable bird. One source refers to it as the worlds largest pelican and another as a mid-sized, go figure..

Thanks, Warren. I'd wondered if it was like the American White Pelican with about a 60" wingspan. And yes, I do love those names and would never consider just calling one a "Pelican" LOL

Yep...it's a pelican, but not sure which type. I'll find out - watch this space.

I'm pretty sure that it's the only species we have in Oz, strangely enough it's the 'Australian Pelican' Pelecanus conspicillatus

Hey Dixiegirl....The photo was taken in Australia so it must be a good old Pelecanus conspicillatus. Don't you just love those names?  Thanks Kinopless, much appreciated (love your avatar).
Thanks, Warren. I'd wondered if it was like the Am... (show quote)

Nope... not about football or the space shuttle. Dixiegirl - thanks for your kind words. Also, sounds like you'd really be interested to know that although we have several codes of football in Australia, none involve touch downs. See.......I knew that would interest you!

Sell PRINTS-never part with your original files.

Right on Dave.. IMHO, never, ever give away your digital files if you believe they have a financial value. Fix a price that you're happy with and sell a print. If somebody needs to see your images make sure that you only supply low resolution files.
Your example pics are all sales begging to be made especially #1.

Do go and read the article that this was taken from..

Quote from Rene Ceria-Cruz:
'Today something stronger than the hunting culture or nostalgia for an adventure-filled frontier past is keeping gun fetishism alive -- social paranoia. A dread of unseen threats against one’s personal safety feeds the demand for automatic assault rifles and handguns, much to the delight of obliging firearm manufacturers.'

Compulsory sterilization for anybody that owns a gun. That way the madness won't be passed on to your children.. It'll take a few years but could work out..

Oh spew.... that's just dreadful..

Don't touch them please, great model, great pose, great exposure. Flash would destroy them and ruin the eyes. The shots as they are are a credit to you.. I cannot believe some of the advice that's being proffered. Stop fiddling with them, they are beautiful 'natural light' images..
leave it at that...

IT IS simplicity itself actually with experience

Personally MY advice would be to get a Weston Euromaster from EBAY ensure you ask IS IT IN WORKING ORDER, then you will have all you will ever need for 100% accurate exposure.

Make sure it comes WITH an Invercone (google)

The D300 has a magnificent state of the art meter, please just read and absorb all you can and learn to use it.
A Weston Master meter uses sixty year old technology and is useless when light levels fall. Your D300 leaves it in it's dust..

Great images, I'd be proud to have taken them, well done.
ps, Forget any small color cast, unnoticeable to 99% of the population..
