A copy of Afghan Girl? Yes it is, but a good copy. Copies of that you seldom see, and this one, that is very well done, is still an original for the photographer. For me it is the one photo that made me stop and admire as soon as I saw it. How many photos of the Eiffel Tower do we still love to take and display over and over again. Or roses, or a butterfly? Oh.... a close up of a bee on a flower. I only see that twenty times a day. Never-the-less, I still enjoy them. How many guys get tired of seeing photos of a pretty girl in a bikini? Or a beach with a palm tree? An Eagle in flight or a reflection on a lake? I really enjoy taking long walks on the beach. ;-)
I've watched the show in the past. Good show.
I have used small battery operated lights https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M35WBDZ/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1----to stuff inside translucent objects to illuminate the object. I works quite well sometimes.
I have and use four tripods. Always room for one more.

I still have one of these guys left, but if I shoot him it will probably be with a reversed lens setup, that is the comparison that I am more interested in. I never shoot smaller than f/11 but I do shoot both reversed lenses and macro lenses. Of course Macro lenses are easier to shoot with but I have always felt that the reversed lens gets you much closer and overall produces a better image.
Would you use a reversed macro lens or a non-macro lens and would there be a difference? Iguess you would need an adapter of some sort to mount the lens backwards.
I think he was right. It is his best side.

Yes, I extend the flash as close to the "critter" as possible, the lower the power setting on the flash the better it prevents motion blur. I used to have an image that demonstrated this, it was a disk with a single white line on it spinning at high rpms, when shot at full power the image displayed motion blur as power settings were reduced motion blur eventually became non existent. Power on a flash is duration of the flash, the lower the setting the shorter the duration and of course this reduces blur. I do use a home made diffuser, light will be harsh and you will not get a natural look to your images without properly diffused flash.

Excellent explanation. Great photos! Also, do you use two or three extension tubes all at the same time and attached to the 100mm macro lens?
A fish hatchery on Long Island New York did a short TV ad to promote attendance. Aside from fish, they had an alligator snapping turtle estimated to be over 100 years old that weighed in at over 180 lbs. To show the power of such a creature they provoked it to bite. It snapped a broom handle clean through. That was years ago but I never forgot the video.
Best I've ever seen of a Kingfisher.
