Early Wed. am I will have a major surgery. My older daughter will bring her laptop with my email in that. I do NOT plan to delete my wonderful UHH, but will be kind of absent to topics and subjects for a bit. As quickly as I can, I will read them all and respond as I feel interest if or when possible. Keep up all the good works, my wonderful "Uglies". I'll be back asap.............

Best wishes for a successful surgery and speedy recovery.

Thanks Thea! What a beautiful dog you have!

I Love this site. I am Deaf--over 50 of my 70 years. Always had "a lucky language mind" Huge stroke altered the term "language" to some interesting degree. Had been "working on" photography. Still am, but cannot read the words and cannot understand the important stuff. Whatever question I feel comfortable to ask, SOMEONE here sends an answer. Never rude. Never mean. Even though I'm sure the "intelligence" of the question must be clear. I really love it here. Love learning and sharing. Love the people I meet and see!

Awesome! And lovely for you! I am an Ohioan and love the redbirds. But...am in Oregon right now and they don't exist here :-( :-( I have some pics from my windows at home of my redbirds, but NOTHING like what you have done. Congratulations. True. They don't like to get noticed or like someone to move. You must be Irish---you seem to have a lotta the luck!!!

I did hear until age 56 when my hearing began to fall off, now I'm legally disfunctional (hearing that is lol). hope you enjoy good health otherwise and thanks for the greetings. L3

Interesting. What is "stone" deaf? I am Deaf. Total. Can't hear myself. No hearing aid. Sign ASL and talk. What about you? Hope you enjoy here. These are wonderful people!

"Legally dysfunctional"! cool phrase! It must be very frustrating you had hearing for so many years! what kind of interpreter do you use? Have you learn ASL? You say your hearing begin to "fall off"! That's pretty much a sign for hearing losses. Mine goes from my shoulder to the end of my fingertips when I sign about my deafness. Like I said, can't hear myself. Now, if I would stand under or near a jet plane when he took off, I might get the take off roar!!! How is your family adjusting to your hearing loss? Do you have caption TV? I love this list, don't you?? Hope you --and all of you-- had a grand Christmas and tomorrow you gonna have a wonderful New Year!!!! ---Buckeye

In my distant past I earned an associate's degree in Interpreting for the Deaf. I had some very good friends who taught me so much about ASL, PSE. It was a good time. I was able to interpret a play once and helped a young teenager from Viet Nam. He was learning to sign as I was learning to interpret. Nice to see you here.

So you are interpreter! And live on the Oregon coast? What place? I am now in Oregon again. Right now in Pendleton with oldest daughter and her family. Home to Canby(near Portland) tomorrow. Other daughter in Albany--closer to the central coast. Have a good friend in Manzanita. Say--interpreting a play is some kind of work!!! Congratulations about that my friend! How did your Vietnamise teenager do? Is he going to school OSSD?Well, I am so long answer you because we here at Jill's and I am only now looking at my emails! We go home tomorrow--my oldest grandson is with me. I'm having a wonderful time, but glad to be back on track!!!

There was a great link that this website had recently about an external monitor connection for a DSLR camera, The one I refer to specifically mounted on top of the camera body in the hot shoe and was about the size of a Kindle or slightly larger. Maybe someone here can resend you that link. It looked pretty neet and it displayed everything your LCD camera display was showing including all the overlays and data and according to the reviewer, it had excellent resolution.

That does sound great. I will try to google it.

Hi--I am just finding this bad eyes link (at my daughter for holidays, so just got on my own email). I have some bad eyes. Had the cataract surgeries, but lately finding something not right especially with left eye. This is scarey for me because I am Deaf and I love photography. Just now someone was talking about something for you put on your computer bigger the letters for you. It just is occuring to me that if you have a Blind group near or not far from you, they could be able to point you to a source for what you looking for. I am wishing everybody here the most good fortune for something to help. I am starting to look myself and grateful for your fine suggestions! I am terrified of loosing more sight. I have the double lenses and am really happy to hear about the kind without lines! My very best of wishes and I will continue with this topic with you all!

1941Buckeye, my greetings also, and stone deaf just comes to some of us old timers. My student counsler was deaf at birth, signs and lip reads. I can do a little of lip read, but no signing. Are you from Ohio? and is that date your birthyear? Larry

Hi Larry--Welcome here. Yep. Native Ohioan living in Oregon right now. As they say, I'm a Buckeye to the Bone! Also Yep. I was born Nov. 8, 1941--just a month before Pearl Harbor. I am not born deaf, but Deaf most my life. i don't remember what it is like to hear. I know I did for quite some time. I think that's a lucky thing....I can't imagine to BECOME Deaf and remember all the hearing!THAT would be worse than sad, I think! For me lipreading is hard. I do it, but prefer signing. We were told once in a class that lipreading ability is like ability of art: your parents might be great lipreaders and you might be lousy about it. OR you might be a great lipreader and your parents etc might just not be able. Deaf or hearing seem to have very little to do with it. It's your born ability one way or the other. Well, WELCOME! I think this is a great place and hope you like it also. Sorry taking so long to answer to you. My oldest daughter brought me and my oldest grandson to Pendleton for the hols and I am just now looking my emails! Home tomorrow so back into things!

YES, Ronnie ! A religion and a cult. But they are fine people. I've lived in Missippi (that's how they say it there) twice -- Biloxi and Jackson. Have traveled there as a Caterpillar Engine Rep, and in Loosiana (that's how the Missippi folks say it), Bama (okay -- Alabama) and teanasee (that's how the Tennessee folks "come out with it"), and also traveled Floida (Florida that is) and Giogia or Gioga (Georgia to y'all).Good folks all, with honor, openness, sincerity, and most trustworthy -- Oh yes, and the good folks in the Carolinas -- Caolinas that is. People of the south are filled with integrity -- they make we Nawthanas (Northerners to y'all) seem like loudmouthed shysters and con artists in comparison. The South is populated by what I call "real people." You will never meet better. They are a pleasure to work with, to live with as neighbors, and a pleasure to play and party with. Lived in Texas and didn't find it much different except they tend to be a bit more in your face with their attitudes, but they are nothing compared to New Yawk City folks. I have good and life-long friends from Texas and Oklahoma.

I've lived or traveled in 30 countries, learning much from many, so maybe my views are as bit broader than the average bear. But I find it a bit distasteful that in the "Nawth" it is not uncommon to find talk of how fine or good the black race is, yet most up here apparently don't want to personally associate with a black. On the other hand, in the South the whites may not talk lovingly of the blacks, but it is very common for that same man or woman to actually openly, quickly. and extensively help a black if they see one in need. That is a great rarity in the "Nawth" in my experience. The Nawth tends to talk a good line about the blacks as a group, but doesn't want to associate with them or directly help a one of them. The average "Suthana" doesn't talk much about blacks, but they DO for them when there is individual need. The average Nawthana seems to be only all talk. I hope I've just misread the Northerner's attitude, but my experience tells me which is the most moral. And neither is the average Southerner afraid to admit he or she is God-lovin', whether they attend church regularly or not. Too often some person or entity from the North will castigate Southerners with the title of "redneck" or "hillbillies" or "Holy Roller". Webster defines hillbilly as a "Michigan dirt farmer." So what's wrong with that anyway, unless you are a prejudiced New Yawk City, Chicago, or L.A. self-judged elitist ? And "Redneck" is a term the elitist uses to unfairly label those with whom the elitist doesn't agree. If you're not sweet, pretty, sly, and conniving, then you must be a redneck ? Brings to mind "HOGWASH."

So all y'all come on down, heah now !

There are good people everywhere, if you'll just look for them. I've found them in 30 countries. It's a great world out there if you just mingle, learn, understand, and accept.

Now ASL, is clear, visible, plain, easy. Just keep the talking language out you head when you go to learn. ALWAYS bring a "new brain" to a new language. What you got's not gonna work!

Hey Sarge! You are right about language speakers. I grew up with 3--all here in US. I hated and struggle with the English. Asl came very sweet to me. Learned from my English Prof at Gallaudet--Robert Panara, a Deaf man--the joys in English. Stroke has scramble all languages! You oughtta hear the word for something I can't remember in any language. My kids and grandsons all get it quick. I guess ya just gotta go where you brain and mouth take ya
